To find the IP load the NAS Navigator from the Buffalo web site. It scans the whole network for Buffalo NAS and lists them all. Make sure the firewall is not blocking the software.

It is also available for MAC.

Dose the Buffalo Linkstation 400 Series NAS device has a built in battery for the BIOS. Because my Linkstation suddenly is unable the save the IP Address, Date & Time etc ?

Without the Model of the NAS device it's difficult for anyone unfamiliar with the unit to research and provide an answer for you.

However, you can go to the Buffalo website, and either download the manual, which contains a troubleshooting section with error codes and other information in it or you can contact Customer Support.

Here's the website -

Buffalo LS CH1.0TL not recognised by computer on IP or USB

If you are using a Windows OS to access the drive, you will be unable to read the filesystem on this drive, as Windows cannot read XFS file systems which Buffalo uses.

Try downloading/booting off of a Linux live cd (knoppix, ubuntu, etc), they are free for download from their respective websites, and should be able to read that XFS partition.

Laptop will not connect to wireless internet says it doesn't have a valid IP configuration. Have unplugged loads of times can get other wireless connections in the area but not mine.

In your laptop, try to put an IP Address, subnet mask, default gateway and preferred DNS server. (please see below)

example:

IP address: 192.168.1.13
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

DNS Server: 192.168.1.1

note: 192.168.1.1, is where your modem or your internet is connected (or the IP Address). This is the one that is provided/configured by your Internet Service Provider.

Buffalo router setup

You have to change the DNS servers on your PC's internet connection.
Instead of using DHCP, type in the two IP addresses from your account at dydns.com.. Right click on your connection icon and choose, "properties".. In the panel presented, choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) the last item in the panel. Next click 'properties' and remove the dot from "obtain IP automatically". Next, type in your new DNS server IP's. The top panel is for you PC address which has to be between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.224. It doesn't matter what IP you choose as long as it is not an address used by another device). The subnet mask will fill itself in. Default gateway is 192.168.1.1. In the bottom panel fill in your new IP's. That's it.

You must install it again so it obtains the new addresses from your new hardware configuration. You'll need your installation CD and can find instructions/downloads on the Buffalo site (support).

Cannot open web page through router

Try opening network connections TCP/IPv4 on your pc and add ip address manualy to be in the same number match the same as your router ie default gateway and preferred DNS Server eg 192.168.1.1 or 10.1.1.1 depending on what default the router is set on the ip address should be the same apart from the last no. eg 192.168.1.8 or 10.1.1.8 subnet mask will default to the right setting if you push the tab key after entering the ip address

Hope this helps
