400 watt hps grow light just bought it but wont work!

Please review the following information.

Take care note of the discussion of connecting the ballast to the lamp housing and ensuring the ballast is NOT connected to the mains when the lamp housing is connected or disconnected from the ballast.
Also be aware the system will not allow you to turn it off and then immediately turn it back on again. There is a built-in safety feature to ensure the lamp and ballast are not damaged due to loss of utility power. There is a 10-minute delay built into the system in the event utility power is lost..

Just bought 4 new 1000W Super high output HPS bulbs. Only one of them is really bright. The others are about 80% by eye. The brightest one is nearest to the transformer stack but the others don't...

A ballast for a 1000 240 volt fixture will lose a small amount of output over time , but should nt be too noticeable . I suggest you take one of the dimmer bulbs and install it into the fixture that has the brightest bulb in it now . If the new bulb is now the brightest of all , then you know your other ballasts have lost some intensity . I have also seen on some bulbs depending on the gas inside the glass( ex. HPS or Metal Halide) which gives off the different color , will take a while on initial start up , to burn at full intensity . It is also possible that you were given used bulbs which would explain the 20 percent loss in intensity . Good luck

One of my two hps bulbs is brighter than the other one the bulbs and one of the ballast are new the other ballast is a year old

Hi .. it could be the ballast .. an easy thing to do to troubleshoot this would be to swap the lamps. If the problem follows the lamp. then that is the problem. If the pronblem stays with the fixture, then I would replace the ballast in that fixture.

Hello...need help.. replaced 600mh bulb then

Have you tried the switch yet? The plastic switches inside some ballast boxes don't do well with the heat produced by the ballast. You can try to simply bypass the switch and hard wire the ballast to the plug to test whether or not that might be your issue. If you need a new switch, just call Sunlight Supply directly http://www.sunlightsupply.com/hort/contact.aspx they should be able to send you a replacement switch.

400 watt HPS

The ballast may not be the problem. The problem may be the ignitor (starter). If the fixture humms, then the ballast is most likely working. Ballasts (transformers) do not go bad very often.

Hid light output?

MH lamps are available in 175,200, 400 and 1000 watt sizes. HPS lamps come in 50, 75, 150, 400 and 1000 watt sizes. San Agro comes in 430w only, but it works with a 400w HPS ballast. Each lamp requires its own ballast, which comes with the fixtures that are designed to use these lamps, and are also available separately.
