This forum has a couple of solutions for resolving this error message. I personally have only had the u99 error with my E85H unit and resolved it with a firmware upgrade. It has worked great for the last 3 years.

They also have a tutorial on how to change a couple of capacitors that are underneath the hard drive inside the unit. It isn't for the squeemish, but read through it and see if your up to the task. Those two capacitors are responsible for the power to the hard drive. If the drive will not spin up you will get a waiting message on the front panel that will not go away.

I've had a Panasonic DMR-E85H since 2005 and it's always worked great. Several weeks ago when I pushed the button on the romote to start the machine, it went through the normal startup & self-test then...

My E85H went totally out the other day. Had been experiencing the dreaded 'please wait' syndrome for the past month but started working again. I e-mailed Panasonic and they told me to send it to;

McAllen Service Center
4900 George McVay Dr.
Suite B Door #12
McAllen, Tx 78503

Said it would take 2 - 3 weeks, include a note explaining the issue. They do not need the power cord or remote. Also said charges would $50+parts+shipping. I assume labor will be higher after they determine what the problem is.

Have you looked at this thread http://www.fixya.com/support/t216825-dvd_recorder_frozen_please_wait_display. I followed the well written advice/instructions, took mine apart tonight and found 3 bad capacitors which I will be replacing tomorrow. If I have the luck that the others have reported my unit should be up and running tomorrow night for under $10 and a little time. Hope this helps.

Will not turn on

open dvd and look at the capasitors on mains power board and if any have raised tops replace them with same value e.g (2000mf 10v)
capasitors look like little battries with white line on side
UNPLUG FIRST

My DMR-E85H recorder is "frozen" at PLEASE WAIT. What can I do to reset it? Thanks.

Manually open and remove disk if there is one inside (dirty or fingerprint disks) will cause lock up of Please Wait

Pan. dmr-e85h turned itself on, self-check

Open case and look for failed capacitors, which are cylindrical and will have a bulging top and a yellow/gold substance leaking out. If this is the problem, search for previous solutions that mention "solder capacitor C1260" for the DMR-E85. I had a similar 'no power' problem with my DMR-E55 and my son and I were able to fix it Sunday. Not hard to do and mine is working again!

After apprrox 5 mins unit switches off

Not sure if this will help, but mine acted up similarly before it went with a message of "Please Wait" on the display at all times. Searched the web, found out two capacitors needed to be replaced. My brother was able to easily solder the parts in a very short time. Google the name and model number with the words Please Wait and you can see how many folks have had this problem. Your machine may be on its way to this problem.

I have good friends that got their machine at the same time. Same thing happened to them within one month of me telling them about it. Our machines are about 4 years old as well.

Another big problem. I then got a U99 Error Code. Completly frozen machine. From my researcy I may have caused the problem by storing too much on hard drive. Once you transfer video, get it off the hard drive. They say mine can not be fixed. Problem is, they do not make them anymore. No hard drives for recording or dubbing DVDs.

Dmr e85h error code

Try resetting the e85 back to factory defaults. You need to simultaneously hold down: Fast Reverse, Time Slip, and Open/Close buttons for about 10 seconds. Be sure to go back into setup to set up the box the way you need it again.
