We have moved on past the use of radar type sensors most now use a above visual spectrum lasers or a type of red shift although some departments still use radar its now in a Trent digital type system that scanners can't pick up anymore because the frequency at which the radar has changed 3 time since 1995 in the USA

2004 Saturn Vue odometer and speedometer occasionally not working

Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) calculates the vehicle speed based on the controller area network (CAN) serial data message indicating the wheel reference speed from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The ECM sends a CAN serial data message to the BCM indicating the vehicle speed. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating the vehicle speed.
The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) when any of the following occur:
• The EBCM detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
• The ECM detects a loss of CAN communications with the EBCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of CAN communications with the ECM.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.

Having the vehicle scanned for codes would probably point you in a correct diagnostic direction .

1994 astro van does it have to be drove in overdrive

I would say it could. Especially for in town driving. It would help with the "searching for the right gear" that sometimes occurs at less than highway/open road speeds.

Also for any towing or heavier loads I would recommend NOT using overdrive.

For open road/highway I would use overdrive to get better MPGs.

Hope this helps.

Front end shimmy when driving down road

Is there a shimmy at all speeds or just a particular speeds? First thing would check are tires to make sure a tire did not separate on you.Look for large bulges in the tread of the tire as well as any deformation of the tire, steel belts showing on the edges of the tire. Please feel free to respond so we can help resolve your issue.

Starts goes to 1500 rpm then stalls

Check engine light? I would check the EGR valve and PDFE senor to make sure its not stuck open since this controls idle speed. If it is stuck slightly open car will rev then stall motor does not know idle speed when open. Valve should be closed only time it opens is when your driving down the road.

2000 grand caravan won't go above 70 mph. high rpms

First I need to ask is it a 4 speed or a 3 speed transmission. If it's a 4 speed when driving down the road pull it from drive to third gear. You shpuld hear the engine speed up if it does not then that means you have on 4th gear and you will have to take it to a transmission shop. If it's a 3 speed then just count the shift points if all 3 gears are present then drive down the road and see if the van goes into tcc. When you mean the rpms are high how high are they.

Van cuts off while driving down the road

DID YOU CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE WITH A FUEL PRESSURE GUAGE, AND MAKE SURE IT IS WITHIN SPECS? IF SO THEN IT COULD BE YOUR IGNITION SWITCH...THE PROBLEM IS, TO DIAGNOSE IT IF IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE VAN MUST BE IN THE "NO START, OR NO RUN" STATE AT THE TIME....

PLEASE RATE THIS,
