between 50 and 100 dollars to buy a new one however if a local tv service center is available they might do the cap replacement for less than 50 but that is up to them.
OK there are 12 CCFL lamps inside these tvs they are like florescent lites in an office building they are most likely fine if the tv is not 15 years old, and most are not...
whats happening is that power pack is supplying the video with "dirty power" and teh ic chip can tell when the voltages go outside of specifications when this happens the tv shuts down the power to the video board to "save it"

My akai lcd tv model lct2721ad sound will not work.

We need to verify if the problem is in the preamp or poweramp sections. Hook up the powered PC speakers to the AUDIO Line out RCA jacks and verify that sound is OK there, if it is OK, The problem will be in the power amp sections that drive the speakers. If it sounds bad at the RCA jacks, the problem will be in the sound processor board which mean the main board will have to be replaced, same if the power amp is bad.

27'' LCD panel compatability

Both power supplies are supplying the same voltages to the circuits but in order to use the one from the NS-27LCD 27" you will need to change the wiring configurations to make it work for the LCT2715..
I could repair the power supply from the LCT2715 for under $90.00 including parts, labor and shipping it back to you.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

Akai LCT2715 Sound

you need to inspect the board, most of the time you can trace the problem according to a deformed component.... bulged capacitor, burnt component (black dust on component and board) or if it's an IC crack or chipped ...

TV Repair Discovery

It is possible that it is due to the power supply since you said "I can turn the TV off with the remote, but can't turn it on again unless toggle the power switch off (and then on) the set itself and only then can I use the remote to turn the TV on"

The power supply could be failing which could cause that symptom. Otherwise if it was not the Power supply it would likely be the main video board that is failing. In any case I would probably take a look at the power supply first as it seems to be a common fail point of the Akai LCT2715.

If it is the power supply you can have it replaced by a TV repair service. They usually do not bother repairing them which ends up 1) costing you more 2) being unnecessary. I offer to repair these Power Supplies if they are indeed faulty. I charge $100 + Return Shipping for the repair.
