Remove the dustcover and the platter mat. There are two round holes in the platter. Have one person hold the base down. Then the second person puts their finger into both holes and give the platter a little jerk. It should come off.

Pull up on the platter with one hand after you remove the rubber mat. Then hit the center post with a rubber mallet while pulling up on the platter with on hand just hard enough to release the platter from the post. The platter should come off.

Take the bottom off and there may be a round cylinder that should be filled with oil and a cap that screws off. Remove the cap and I think there is a clip that needs to be removed.

the may be a 'dead spot' on the motor, try to jump start it by spinning it with your fingers several times. it's a longshot but it might work

SOURCE: motor turns feebly, not enough to make the platter

Sounds like the motor is bad if you say it turns feebly. See if you can turn the drive shaft with your fingers easily. If you find it hard, it's possible that something might have worn out. You could try oil in that case.

SOURCE: How do I remove the

Lift the rubber mat off the platter and notice the two large holes for your fingers to fit into. Simply lift the platter off the base by pulling.

How can iget the belt back on my turntable pioneer pl 990

PUT IT ROUND THE PLATTER BASE FIRST,THEN LOOP A BIT OF STRING ROUND THE BELT LONG ENOUGH, SO WHEN YOU PUT THE PLATTER BACK ON,YOU CAN LIFT IT UP A LITTLE BIT WHERE THE MOTOR WHEEL IS THAT TURNS THE BELT, PULL THE STRING TOWARDS IT SO THE BELT GOES OVER IT.DROP THE PLATTER THEN PULL THE STRING OUT.

Hello My turntable do not spin

This turntable is a belt driven type. The belt wraps around the underside of the platter and the drive motor spindle. If the belt has slipped off, broken or is so old that it is slipping - the platter will not turn. Usually you can remove the rubber cover on the top of the platter to use access openings beneath to put the belt back on.

The turntable product brochure, owner's manual and related info is available from Pioneer, here.

I hope this helps!

I have a Pioneer PL-61 turntable I plugged it in and put the speed on both 45 & 33, with no movement. Any ideas? It was given to me by a friend

Take the turntable off. Check the motor to see if it's turning. Clean the shaft with alcohol and wipe the alcohol residue off. Make sure the drive belt fits tightly. If it's loose, it will slip.

Pioneer pl 990 turntable

Lift off the platter mat, then lift off the platter from the spindle - gently.
Underneath the platter is a sub-platter around which you place the belt - it should be held there by the stretch of the belt while you turn the platter back up the right way and place it back on the spindle.
Turning the platter by hand, you should see a small pulley come into view through one of the holes in the platter. You then stretch the belt slightly so that it slides over the pulley. Take care not to twist the belt while doing this.

Belt off

Lift the platter. PLace the belt under the platter on the inside ring. PLace it back on the turntable, and you can stretch it back onto the motor with your finger or black stick through one of the holes on the platter, while the platter is positioned where it is accessible. if you need a replacement, try...
