You may have your SAP settings turned on in your VCR. Check your setup menu and turn SAP off
SAP stands for Secondary Audio Program, it allows for bilingual sound if the station is transmitting a SAP signal.

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.
1st setup ur VCD with TV and playback it to view on TV. If picture is coming, thats OK.
2nd plug ur camcorder in VCR input and select VCR input according to plug in and monitor the camcorder picture on TV through VCR. If its ok, now u r ready to record the picture from camcorder to VCR.
you could have a separate record head that is working & a separat pay head that is misaligned or damaged.
What u are talking about is [OSD] On Screen Display, did you always have it?, Did it suddenly go away?
Hi,
Based on your post/description, you need to get a multi-system TV to go with your multi system VCR if you are going to playback VHS tapes from different regions.
You are quite correct "Plays NTSC tapes to NTSC,
Will not Play Pal to NTSC" to play PAL (even Secam) you would need a PAL/Secam TV. They have a different system for color and audio. In some cases, you can still play PAL but you get it in black & white and picture squeezed from top & bottom.
Hope this be of some help to you. Good luck and kind regards.
if your vcr is a multisystem, select the proper system in your vcr for the video to be played. but if not, you cannot play your PAL in your NTSC vcr. good luck!
I have a similar problem. It takes 3 or 4 times to get my Sony VCR to accept a tape. Once it does, everything is fine, until I turn it off. Next day, same trouble. I tried several tapes and brand new tapes. No difference. I have opened the cabinet and used alcohol to clean various stuff, no change.
