According to the intructions and I quote "Take off the cowling that covers the spool, twist off the pick up mechanism clockwise and a half turn anti clockwise will remove the spool"

How does the spring go back in a Shakespeare Synergy 2001S reel?

Here are the steps to properly install the spring in a Shakespeare Synergy 2001S reel:
  1. Remove the spool from the reel.
  2. Locate the bail wire assembly on the side of the reel.
  3. Take the spring and slide it onto the bail wire assembly. The smaller end of the spring should be facing towards the reel.
  4. Hold the spring in place and reattach the spool to the reel.
  5. Test the reel by pulling the line out and then closing the bail. The spring should be under tension and hold the bail in place.
If the spring is not holding the bail in place or is not properly installed, the reel may not function correctly. If you are having difficulty installing the spring, it may be helpful to consult the owner's manual or a professional for assistance.

How to take reel apart to reload line

Hi Karen:
If this is a fishing reel, pull off the old line into a plastic bag or wind it on to an old spool so it can be safely discarded. Tie the new line on to the reel, and wind the new line on.
There used to be a closed face spinning reel that you would unscrew the face cover to access the spool.

If this is a weed eater, grass whip, some of the older units had a threaded centre with a left hand thread. Once unscrewed, the spool lifted off and you could wind on the new cutting cord.

Happy fishing, or gardening.

The line constantly comes out of the reel. I just bought it. Have not had an open face reel in years.

Your line is not taking the memory of your reel, therefore coming off trying to come to its original state. You could try braid fishing line, which has no memory, or go down on the pound test of mono filament line your using. First, before buying anything else you should try to tie your string to one of the eyelets and reel in until the line is pretty tight(tight as you can get it), and leave for a couple of days, it will start to take the memory of your reel spool. Hope this helped.

I have a shakespeare sigma fishing reel that tangles up when I cast it, any solutions

The line needs to installed on the reel as it is on the new spool when purchased. Also check spool drag. If it is a spinning reel it is important to install the string correctly and use a quality brand of string.

Cannot open Shakespeare Synergy Steele 2001s fishing reel

alright man......i had the same problem. it just takes a little bit of elbow grease, bot it does twist open, it's just harder than hell to get it to twist off. I took a towel and laid it over the reel, and lightly tapped on it with a hammer to loosen it up a bit.

I do not know how to thread line through reel . No instruction on how to set up reel for fishing.

put spool of string on a pencil and have someone hold it, now snake the string through the eyes of the pole and attach it to the reel, on the small shaft in the middle, then just reel your pole in untill you reach YOUR limit of string..
