The line needs to installed on the reel as it is on the new spool when purchased. Also check spool drag. If it is a spinning reel it is important to install the string correctly and use a quality brand of string.

Try attaching the swivel to a chain link fence and walk away feeding the line completely out. Then begin reeling in the line at a normal pace with the drag set at max, after 10-15 turns decrease the drag a full turn. continue doing this until the line is fully retrieved. then set the drag as you normally would before fishing. Sometimes the line gets twisted while fishing which cause the tangles and backlashes. Make sure you use a barrel swivel also.

Shakespeare ?Tidewater? reel

late response here, but it is worth noting that these reels need quite a bit of lure weight to cast easily. two or three oz and it will do very well. i use these for cats and love em. good luck

How to I fix a spin casting reel?

You should be able to remove the spool by removing the knob on the front of the reel which also is the drag adjustment. With the knob off the spool should pull right off. Hope this helps you

I just recently purchased a shakespear sigma baitcast reel, and I can't cast the thing without backlashing it

Baitcast reels are very frustrating to some people. There should be a dial on the side which controls a magnet that keeps it from backlashing make small adjustment and cast also use your thumb to aid in controlling the spool. Then practice practice practice.

Ladyfish fishing pole by shakespeare

try switching sides of the handle by holding the bell and reeling then screw it in on the other side of the real by just reeling in. If that doesn't work then take all the line out and reel in some new line the opposite way.

Think it may be a line tension problem. every

Wow, I can't believe that. That reel is very simple and shouldn't do that. I would guess that it's a problem with the line. Usually a real like that comes with line. Sometimes line is bad and it's very twisted due to being the last on the spool before it's put on your reel. I would suggest you buy some quality line, like Trilene or Stren and use about 6 lb test. I like the limp kind (read the box and it will tell you what type you are buying). Limp line means fewer twisting/tangling problems. Good luck. Alley
