The keyboard on laptop is locked.

I don't know how to unlock it. Can you help?
Thanks,
Kathy

Thanks kbdesign. I've tried rebooting, and also uninstalling the driver, letting Windows (XP) detect new hardware and reinstall the driver. No keys are stuck down. I can't hit F2 or Del to go into setup as the keys don't respond. How does one get into setup with no keyboard (not sure there will be anything in there to help anyway). I'm aware of the FN key, but there's no key combination that I know of to toggle a keyboard lock. I guess I'll try attaching an external keyboard when I get my hands on one with a usb connector.

Are any of the keys stuck down?

Does it do this when you reboot the machine e.g. can you press F2 or Del to go into setup?

Also are you familiar with the 2nd function keys onthe laptop (usually defined in blue on the key) to access these you usually press a "Fn" button to activate the blue part. Maybe you activated a keyboard lock by accident. If you have the manual maybe check this or call dell support as previously mentioned.

Keyboard of myASUS K50IJ-XA1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Black) is locked How to unlock the same? Kindly help

Well, do you mean only the keyboard is locked? Can you boot the system properly? Is the mouse working? Which Operating System is running on your Laptop?
Here are a couple solutions you can try before you let me know the above queries.
1. Press and hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard while pressing the L key on the keyboard once. In other words, Press Windows Key + L once. If this doesn't work, don't forget to include the Fn key while pressing these two keys. Windows+Fn+L. Still nothing?
2. Turn off the Machine, remove the battery and unplug the charger. Leave it for at least 10 seconds, you can press the power On button on the laptop without the battery and the charger installed/plugged in. Now re-install the battery, and turn back On the machine. It should work.
If you need further help, if the problem persists, Let me know with the details.
Good Luck.

I need to relace a laptop keyboard. how do I do that? The laptop is running Winxp and is about 3 yrs old. It was a custom built laptop at a local computer shop. The laptop belongs to my son and most of the...

Get the replacement keyboard for the same model of _barebook_. To find the model go to the "uniwill" website, almost all barebooks are made by uniwill or hasee. The barebook is the base system (motherboard, casing and LCD only), the rest of the components are added by the computer shop.
It may be hard to find a replacement keyboard for a generic computer.
When you find the exact replacement, look for the posts under the keyboard that accept the screws and look under the notebook where are located those screws, they can have a keyboard icon near the correspondent hole. Remove them and unlock the latches that hold the keyboard near the F1~F12, caps lock and enter keys while lifting the keyboard out. Be careful with the ribbon cable, unlock the connector and remove, connect the new keyboard, lock the connector, slide in place and lock the latches and put the screw(s) again.
