Toastmaster T80BC toaster will not engage when plugged in.

Holding the lever down firmly will allow the toaster to perform normally. This unit also has a cancel button on the side (electronic?) which may be malfunctioning. Are you aware of any recalls for this product? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about this but this same toaster just caused my kitchen to go catch fire and we lost everything in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the house. The fire inspector said it was b/c of the toaster. We were alseep, the toaster was NOT in use. I simply forgot to unplug it. Now I have to move, but thatnkfully our insurance is covering it.

Why do you think cancel button is broken , is it stuck ? if not you gave a bad control board . so recheck the button , and pick at it to pop back to normal . if you need a board your out of luck , no parts are made for toasters anymore . its a toss it and get a new one world . if you get 4 years out of todays toasters your doing good Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . A 1 or 2 may knock me down into the unpaid ranks. Thanks Cactus Bob .

Toastmaster toaster only works if i hold lever down

There is a catch on the lever that is loose or broken. You may have to dissemble it to find out. If broken, just order the part. It is pretty easy to put on.

yes I got the same problem, I Fix myself.(model T80BC)
unplug main power cable, remove top cover (remove 4 screw from the bottom and knob from the side)disconnect control panel cable from main board.look at the attached picture.in the photo close to power cable connector will see a slot
(look at the black arrow mark pointed ).insert plastic switch to this slot, make sure both side properly mounted.then move toaster push down lever up and down. it should move as usual without any obstruction. now put back control panel cable and top cover, knob, and all the screws. plug cable into the power,it should work.

Toaster does not engage properly, and sometimes not at all.

You can fix this but you must do so with extreme care. I am presuming this is a mechanical catch.

The catch acts in a manner similar to that of a mouse trap. You must remove the cover which will expose you to dangerous electric voltages and dangerous heater elements. Examine the catch and bend the linkage to suit your needs. Plug it in and test it. Contiunue this process until you are satisfied with the operation.

Be careful!!!!!

(((You may be better off with a new toaster)))

I hope this helps you

The digital control panel is on the fritz,

We ran into the same problem today with our toaster. There was never a problem before I cleaned it--not only by sliding out the crumb drawer, but by turning it upside down to dislodge every last crumb. After that, It would not stay down when pushed down--and none of the buttons were functional.

My husband took the cover off and found that a magnet is what keeps the lever down when the toaster's on, and allows it to go back up when the toasting is done. It's an electro magnet that works only when the toaster is on. It seems that when I turned the unit upside down and rightside up again, crumbs landed on the magnet's contact plates (which are about 1/4" x 1/2") and would not allow the magnet to engage. Because the magnet wouldn't engage, the lever would not stay down, and the toaster shut off. Brush off the magnets, replace the cover and toast away!

Lever on taoster will not stay down

Black & Decker T4050 OptiToast 4-Slice and it will not stay down and heat either. However you can hold it down and then it will heat. I apparently has an electromagnet that is supposed to hold it down and it's not working. Any Suggestions?

hi sounds like the problem is the holding down mechanizem clean the toaster well find that spring which caches the lever down you can find it on the external lever side pretty small and simple thing when you push down the external lever the spring kick a little lever which holds the slide in place for heatup only when you will hear a "click" then you'll know its in place and then the electric cicuit will be close and engage the coils to heatup good luck
