at the moment im currently finding a soloution for this on my own xda orbit. im going to start by dismantling the phone to see if there is a loose connection etc..
also gona try hard reset if it still persists but if it dont work i think its an issue with the battery which id get off ebay, they cost about £5 but ill try these first before i spend money, ill be doing these tonight so ill let you know what happens tomorow.

2.Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two soft key buttons. Release them only when you see the following message on your device screen: "Press SEND to restore factory default, press END to quit."
3.Press on your device.
On my XDA the reset button is located on the left bottom side of the XDA.
The only way to solve your problem is that you will have to format your phone by pressing the reset batton along with both function keys in front untill somthing appears on the screen.
By a hard reset I presume you mean resetting to manufacturers default settings?
If you can boot your device, the easiest way is to go to Start > Settings > System Tab > Clear Storage.
If you cannot boot into Windows Mobile on your Orbit then the best way is to hold down both the left and the right soft-keys (the two keys with _ marked on them, either side of the wheel) at the same time whilst you poke a paperclip (or similar pointed item) into the reset button on the left side of the orbit. This will initiate a hard reset on the device.
