On the Toshiba A70 you should try holding down the fn key at lower left and pressing the F5 key which is the video transfer keyboard command for pretty much every Toshiba laptop. Otherwise, their little pictograms on the F keys almost always have a tiny representation of a laptop next to a monitor.
Instead, turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Purchase a can of compressed-air.
Give your computer a "blow-job", to remove all the dust that has accumulated inside your computer.
The dust has been acting as "insulation", forcing the fans to run faster, and with more noise.
Check the drivers for the ethernet port in the device manager to see if they are there. If so, then uninstall them and reboot. The machine will find the device and reinstall the drivers. This will correct the problem if it's a driver glitch. If the drivers are not there, then you will need to go to Toshiba's support site and download them. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "can't open the ethernet slot to insert card", could you be more specific and I'll see if I can help you through it.
