This is caused by a circuit board problem in the hose. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this problem is to purchase a new SES 125-3 hose. The good news is that the new production hoses have rectified this problem and you will not experience it again.

It is not generally necessary to replace the entire cord reel, although occasionally it is.

Here's the quick and easy DIY way to make your cord reel work again: you will need a #2 phillips head screwdriver, any flat head screwdriver, a pair of scissors, and a zip-tie.

First, remove the bag compartment lid by gently prying the hinge parts inward with the flathead screwdriver until you can lift it free. Remove bag and exhaust filter, and then remove the two screws holding the rear control panel on. Lift the front of the control panel upward until you hear a horrible unpleasant crunching noise. You didn't break it.

Lift that free, and remove all screws from the top of the main housing. (I believe there are 6 or so... but I can't remember off the top of my head.) The housing should then lift free.

You should now be able to see your cord reel. see if it wiggles back and forth along the central axle. If it does, you'll want to place the zip tie around the side of the axle which is away from the large round copper contacts which look almost like leaf springs. This will ensure that the contacts make electrical contact again. Cut off the excess zip-tie.

When putting the parts all back together, it is essentially a reverse of the disassembly, but be sure that you thread the cord through the hole in the back of the housing before you attempt to screw the housing down, or you will be very sad; both because you'll have to disassemble it again, and because you'll probably jack up your cord and have to replace the reel, which is what we're trying to avoid.

Test machine. If it works: party. If not, you will have to replace the cord reel.

For further clarification on the process, contact me.

Good luck,

-R

SOURCE: We have a Miele Silver Moon vacuum that isn't

Hi dear. There are two type of attachments for this vacuum cleaners to pick up the pets hair, fluff & so on.They call it"Turbo & Power Brush".Turbo brush operates with machines suction & Power one operates with small electric motor which is built in the unit. They work with the same prenciple. There is a belt drives the rotary brush.OK.there are two small yellow screw underneath the unit. Please undo them, take of the cover & clean the rotary brush, check for the belts tension. It should be enough tight to drive the brush. If not ask for spare part from Miele in your country. After cleaning please put it back in order. To test it,attached to the vacuum.Turn the power on for Turbo brush,as long as suction starts, brush should start turning too.For the Power one, there should be power button on the handle to turn it on & off.Press it.It should work.On both of the unit, brush should spin good & strong enough to do the job when it's attached the surface you are vacuuming.Check the brush after each use, cleaned if neccesary. I hope that helps.Thanks.

SOURCE: miele silver moon s558 powers up sometimes not

That's remarkably good news. You can almost certainly fix it for about twenty cents in about twenty minutes. First, open the main bag chamber, and remove the upper bag chamber lid. This can be achieved by gently prying back the tabs back by the hinges, and then sliding the whole thing upward. Next, you'll want to remove the exhaust filter and the two screws holding the control unit to the back of the vacuum. (The black part.) Lift up at the front of the control unit and it should lift away. This may make a terrifying snapping noise, don't worry about it. You didn't break it! Next you'll need to remove the screws that hold the main chassis onto the base. I believe there are roughly seven, in a perimeter around the chassis, if memory serves. Note that there are a couple up by the handle part. Once they're all removed, the whole thing should lift right off. Now, here's the actual cause of your problem. Over time, the cord reels in these guys start to wear out a little bit, and what happens is that the electrical contacts that keep power flowing through your reel start to move apart from each other. Locate the cord reel, which should be hanging out in the base area. Grab the white reel itself and wiggle it left and right. See all that play? So here's the fix: get a ziptie from an auto parts store or any place like that. Remove the screw holding the cord reel assembly into the machine and lift out the cord reel. When looking at the reel, you should be able to see the electrical leads that come out of the center of the wheel: one black, one white. On the OPPOSITE side of the reel from those wires, you're going to want to put the ziptie around that central axle. This will then take out all that slack you were feeling. Make sure you clip the end of the ziptie before you re-install your reel. Place the cord reel back in the body and then make sure you re-thread the cord through the hole in the back of the chassis. Place the chassis back on, replace the screws. Place the control unit back on, and replace the screws, snap the chassis lid back in, replace your bag and filter, and you should be in business. Please note that this works 99% of the time, but occasionally a reel will wear out to the point where this fix won't work. If it does, you do now know how to install it, so you shouldn't have to pay anyone else to do it for you. A new reel costs about $120, which is why I ALWAYS tried this fix first. Also of note: I wrote these instructions from memory, so if you're trucking along and you find that I've missed something somewhere, post another clarification request and I'll walk you through it. Good luck! -R

My Vacuum constantly switches down from Max to Min vacuum speed.

Someone gave me a Miele S558 with this exact problem and I fixed it by disassembling the power hose and cleaning the contacts, bend them a little bit so that they exerted more force onto the metal ring, and reassembling. The end of the hose that attaches to the canister had the worst connection and this end was the most difficult to disassemble (I actually could not disassemble it completely, just enough to pull out the contacts and cleaning/bend them). Check other answers for how to clean the power hose contacts for more details on how to do this, I'm just saying that cleaning them did fix my problem. Good luck!

That is possible, also check for a.m. exhaust filter off the motor. Usually a very fine filter to stop dust that gets past the bag. May just need to open it up and clean out the accumulated debris.

I have a Silver Moon S558, when I turn it on the power light comes on and a few secords later the red warning light comes on. What is causing the vacuum not to work? One day I was vacuuming, turned it off and a few minutes later went to turn it on and nothing, but these lights turning on. Is there a fix?

My miele silver moon attachment brush stopped spinning. the belt looks good what could it be

It is most likely the hose. There are wires inside the hose that connect the speed and suction control on the handle, to the board inside the canister. After years of use, the wires can become damaged to the point that they wont complete the circuit anymore. Any vacuum store that sells miele will have the replacement hose. You can also get it from miele directly, or off ebay. Be careful going to the vacuum store if you dont have a trusted shop, as they make more money from the sale of a new vacuum, rather than a replacement hose.

My Miele Silver Moon "Reset" light is blinking. What do I do?

Greetings from GoVacuum,

Ahh yes, the Silver Moon. One of Miele's best made vacuums ever! So good that out of all the different vacuums that I could of chose for my home, the Miele S558 Silver Moon was the one I chose.

When you're Reset button is flashing, this simply means that it's time to replace the HEPA filter on your vacuum cleaner. Miele included this feature on their upper end models to alert the user when their filter needed to be changed.

The Miele Silver Moon uses Genuine Miele S-Class HEPA Filter for S300i/S600i, and Miele S7 Uprights. Miele Part # 04854915 (replaces 04854911) Which can be purchased from GoVacuum for $52.95 with free shipping.

Once you have installed the new HEPA filter, simply press down on the flashing Reset button to restart the 50 hour internal timer inside. Miele recommends to replace this filter after every 50 hours of vacuuming.
