Problems with cavalry 500gb external memory

I have a 500gb exrernal memory and all of a sudden when i turn it on it does not get detected my my computer, the light comes on and everything, but i cant open any programs that are saved to it.

The driver for this specific device is missing or corrupt. simply re install the driver information and, this will fix it.

    No, they are still OK. the driver is what you will need to re install.

    The driver should be located on the disk that was shipped with this device.

    Good rule of thumb is to always defrag your main on board hard drive regularly. this will prevent the drivers from becoming corrupt.

1. This could be due to several things.
a. The power supply for the external drive is not working properly
b. A broken power supply connector.
c. The USB drive was disconnected improperly > that is not disconnected safely in Windows
d. The external drive controller in the USB case is defective. A new case is needed.

A typical sound from a disk-drive that has malfunctioned.

If it still has a valid WARRANTY, exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.

If the warranty has expired, then open the case, remove the disk-drive, buy a new "compatible" disk-drive, connect it, and thus "revive" your external storage device.

I was using my harddisk for more than 2.5 years and suddenly from yesterday......when i try to access it through my computer it says format the disk...i dont know what happened suddenly.....and the blue...

do not format.....do not chkdsk....

get some data recovery software and install it in other computer with second harddrive

then run the software and recover the data in it

Hard drive is turning on but computer isn't recognizing it

Maybe when it dropped it shattered a bit of the circuit board....
Or a wire came loose, maybe the Ex HDD pin has broke. Unsure.
Do you at all hear any clicking? That you may not of heard before?

HDD won't work anymore.

Just change ( buy ) new external then put hdd on new external and everything will work fine!
