Well you should clarify more but i am assuming that your tv is set on widescreen mode and the only way to get rid of the bands is by using the menus to switch your screen format

Disney princess tv suddenly narrowed the visible part of the screen. Now everything is squished into a two in wide band with all the rest of the screen is black.

if that 2 band according to you from top to bottom,it has a defective vertical stage.if this two band appears one on top and one at the bottom,it`s on vertical stage.leaky capacitors, resistance changed or resistor devalued ang ic`s, are too weak to amplify a signal to make the screen complete....

New 37 in. tv conn. to cable not hdtv i have approx a 4" black band on each side and 2" band top & bottom is this a setting issue or because i don't have the hdtv box?

According to all the tech sheets I can see, this unit has no Tuner. If your using the cable box to change channels it probably doesn't support HDTV, except maybe for the individual channels. You might be able to access your TV's on-screen menu to change the way programs are displayed.

How do I get my hct tv make the picture fit the screen? I have the black bands on top and bottom.

Usually on your remote control is an option to change screen size or resolution. If not, the on your remote go to "setting" or "menu" or something that will get you into tv setup. once you get there you should be able to set you tv to Standare, WIDE, WIDE zoom, letterbox, or some other setting. I suggest you experiment with what looks best to you If you are seeing the bars at top and bottom you re currently in "standard" mode.

I have a 2 inch black band which appears intermittently dwon the full height of a 22inch JVC lcd television can anyone explain it for me? thanks

If it is black vertical band from the top all the way down to the bottom of the screen, your LCD panel is going bad and you will see more bands and it will get worst.

The bottom of the screen is black-as though there is a border along the bottom. I can't find a horrizontal adjustment anywhere.

It is a vertical issue, not horizontal.

Is the picture you have complete? Is there a black band along the top as well? If so, it may be because you are providing an HD aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of the TV native 4:3.

Try hooking up a VCR and watching a tape. Do you still have the black band on the bottom?

When watching any DVD's with my Samsung HT Q100 DVD player there is a black band at the top and bottom of my Sharp 42 inch LCD screen- what settings do I need to change to get these removed?

Normally dvd's have a widescreen and full screen option somewhere in the settings menu. Try to find these two options and just switch to Full screen.
