Re: I have a dell mini 1020, i recently upgraded the ram...
Have you tried to put yhe original Memory back in? Are the Modules seated properly? Are they the EXACT type? Unplug, remove battery, reseat or reinstall the originals, insert battery, plug in, reboot. NOTE: Be aware of ESD. Ground yourself.

just leave in one of the new 1gb stick of memory if stable memory was the issue so add the back one at a time each time shut down install turn on test if still unstable coould be the hard drive
have you added any ram recently or anything? i would suggest booting into safe mode press f8 after the bios and try and do a roll back and shut off any un needed programs via run-msconfig-start up. also DISCONNECT ANY USB DEVICES
Uninstall Internet explorer 8 and any .net upgrade which is rescent. Try it now and use internet explorer 7 if it is working ok with downgradeor better goto firefox and download firefox. Other possibility is RAM has failed, if there are two sticks try booting with one stick in theA slot and other removed, alternate the ram sticks to test. If only one ram stick try a similar ram type pc or laptop for ram test, a friend?
this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.
basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.
my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.
Upgrading ram is possibly the easiest upgrade to a pc.Firstly shut down the computer and remove the wall plug.
Remove the casing Make sure you touch something metal away from the case before entering the chassis of the computer... anti static wristbands are good.
As soon as you open the case you will see the dimm slots where the ram goes.
You will find two plastic clips on each ram module, just pull these back to release the ram and insert the new ram.You may need to push firmly down to lock them in.The clips will auto lock.
Just be careful not to push to hard as to damage the mainboard.
Hey bro, a gross consumption of system resources s a good sign of... sorry to be the one to tell you, but a virus. A good free virus removal/detector is avg ( http://free.avg.com/ ). If this isn't the problem, you might want to shut down extra junk. You can delete stuff from your Programs folder, or you can do a temp thin. Under run on the start menu, type msconfig. From here, you can shut down any programs that you don't need. Just make sure to restart when you're done.
RAM can be finicky so first test all memory slots with a known good stick (your 512MB). Make sure you're starting from a complete power down and you get a POST beep (hopefully your system is set up to beep when it powers on) and everything loads up all the way through to your OS.
Once you do that with all your memory slots test with the new stick by itself in all memory slots. If neither of the memory slots work with the new stick but you verify that it works in another system you should then check your BIOS settings and RAM timings to ensure compatibility with your stick. If you can't find the timing on the RAM stick itself, look up the manufacturer's part number for the information.
You can try this site, it scans your system to see if your computer can run more memory than what is currently installed. it helps you find the right memory modules for your system and and an option for you to read reviews if available and if you want to buy it.
