Convergence is usual cause of this problem. Try performing convergence adjustment with remote.

There are L and R audio outputs in the rear, so you can hook it up to a surround sound system; no optical outs.
The screen size is 80 inches - but I'm sure your friend told you that.

Looks like a plasma gone bad
