Hello, I have a Sony KP-51HW40 TV and it is going green and shuts off intermitent the red light on the front blinks 5 times for the troubleshooting diagnostics but don't have any idea what this means and how to troubleshoot the problem any furthur.TV works fine sometimes but still has the blinking light that flashes 5 times then recycles, 5 times blinking and don't change. Any info would be helpful. Thank you!
TURN TIMER OFF. GO TO SONY.COM, TROUBLESHOOTING, OR
The STANDBY light is flashing on the television and there is no picture or sound.
The STANDBY light will flash if an issue is detected within the television. This can sometimes be resolved by simply following the steps below to reset the television.
Turn off the television.
IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
Turn on the television.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.
I have a similar problem with my KV25x5 it seems to be the CRT. I have just brought a new TV rather then fix it.
as a starting point & google "sony 5 blinks"

Hi, I can help you to solve your Sony tv problem. Is it Sony KP-51HW40 tv or any other model? How many times red light start blinking after three seconds long pause? Let me know to proceed, can you check voltages with multimeter in tv circuit board? Thanks.
Hi, KP-51HW40 shuts off due to incorrect white balance and blue arch lines is an evidence of that incorrect white balance. I hope tv standby red light would flashing 5 times then 3 seconds pause and again 5 times when tv shuts down. This is rear projection tv that has three picture tubes (red-green-blue) inside to generate picture that projected at front screen. These three picture tubes must be drive with correct drive voltage to produce good picture of each color. Solution for your tv problem is Screen Voltage adjustment that can be done easily if you are handy with electronics stuff repair. Let me know your expertise level to guide you more and if you feel unconformable by tv repair then local tv repairman will help you to adjust white balance in tv. Hope these info will help you. Let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks.
If you put the "CR" board back on, the error code will once again be 5 blinks. Your problem is likely the TV's IK blanking circuit. The Kine driver ICs on the CRT sockets boards CR, CB, and CG need replacement along with a few components in the 200 volt supply to the circuit.
This might be a convergence amplifier problem or a problem in the convergence coils. I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician check this TV out. This problem is usually due to the convergence amplifiers malfunctioning, to replace then the two modules and their biasing resistors must be replaced.
