I ran across Acid Music Studio 8 for $9.99, http://www.outletpc.com/yx1955-855309672669-sony-acid-music-studio-80.html that's the best deal around!
You might check your system sound settings for recording and playback. Often the device selected for recording is muted so that you do not get feedback.
For example, a microphone would be muted as a playback device when selected as a recorded device. This might be what is happening to your guitar audio input.
