When my compressor reaches 120psi it shuts off but air comes out of the regulator. I replaced the regulator and it is still leaking air when it stops. When it reaches 90psi the pump starts again. It does not leak when it is filling. Only when it stops and it is coming from the regulator.

The air is coming out of the pressure switch but the problem is the tank check valve. The tank check valve is on the tank where the large line from the pump feeds into the tank. There is also a smaller line, either plastic or copper, from the check valve to the pressure switch. When the pump shuts off the check valve is supposed to close and the pressure switch opens a valve that lets the head pressure bleed off through the small line. This lets the motor start the next time without any pressure in the head. If the check valve isn't closing properly the air will leak out as you describe.

SOURCE: Compressor fills with air and shuts off. No

This sounds like a problem with you check valve. This should seal after the air compressor shuts down but if there is a problem with the check valve then it will allow the air to escape back out from the take.

Here is a link to the parts breakdown:

You want to check part # 11 A19714.

SOURCE: AIR LEAK ON CRAFTSMAN AIR COMPRESSOR, 3HP,25 GAL, HORIZ TANK

The needle valve that you see is the unloader which releases air pressure from the discharge line after set pressure is obtained. If air continues to leak after the compressor shuts off, the check valve installed in the tank is leaking air out of the tank. Follow the air discharge line from the compressor to the tank. There you will find a brass valve which is the check valve. Simple test is to remove the smaller airline (1/4") from the brass valve and check for air leaking. If leaking remove brass valve and check for debris under the white seat. If you cannot clean the valve, replace with generic check valve from www.grainger.com. It will cost less than factory part. Just order the valve considering the fitting sizes that you need. For exact replacement,( www.sears.com parts). If you sears model # begins with WL then your compressor is made by campbell hausfeld and parts may be ordered from www.chpower.com. Good Luck with you repair and email if you have more questions.

SOURCE: Air compressor does not regulate pressure to set point.

Emglo airmate compressors are set from the factory to shut off at around 125psi. There is an adjustment (remove cover to pressure switch) that will controll the cut-off pressure but it is not recommended changing the factory setting. There is also a safety valve installed that will open at about 160psi. It is a small brass device with a pull ring. When things go wrong with the pressure switch (rectangular box with power cord coming out of one side) the safety will pop open. There is a pressure regulator with round knob on panel that will lower the pressure to the tool, however this regulator does not control the pressure switch. Let you compressor run untill it shuts off and verify pressure to be about 125, if it is then all as well. Good Luck

SInce the pressure gauge is not working, replace it. Also remove the regulator and clean it. Be sure to unplug the compressor and drain the tank before you start.

SOURCE: -compressor comes on and when it shuts off a hole

It sounds like your pressure switch has a bad diaphragm. I'd replace the switch.

I have a Central Pneumatic 38898 pancake compressor that will not shut off when the pressure reaches pre-set PSI. I have replaced the pressure switch but to no avail...HELP!!

There must be a blockage on the fitting where the pressure switch goes in that stops the air pressure from reaching the regulator. Try taking the switch off and turn the compressor on and see if air comes out the hole

My air compressor won't get past 60psi but keeps running and isn't leaking air anywhere when I shut it off

Your problem lies with the valve plate and/or piston & cylinder. If one or more reed valves on the valve plate are cracked, bent or broken; pressure will only build to a certain point. If either the ring on the piston is damaged or the cylinder is badly scored it will not be able to compress air beyond a certain point. Unless the tank pressure reaches 120psi to 130psi the pressure switch will never turn the motor off.

Psi does not go above 20

Check drain as it might not be closed all the way, you may have to set the regulator and there could be a bad switch diaphragm.....

Pop off valve on return line leaking compressor keeps running turn compressor off stops leaking whats up?

Once the pop off valve reaches its opening point, it will stay open as long as the pressure is above that point. When you shut the compressor off, the pressure leaks down until the pop off valve closes. Sounds like the pressure regulator is set a little too high. If you can turn the regulator switch down, it should fix it.

Our small compressor gets to about 80 psi and doesn't shut off. Prior to this usually late at night, I'd hear the compressor come on...so we got in the habit of making sure it was shut off after we used...

Two different issues:

1: There is a leak in your lines somewhere or your drain petcock is leaking (they go bad within a few years). The most likely issue is a quick-connection coupler, as they wear out pretty fast based on how rough you are on them.

2: Not shutting off means it no longer reaches full PSI (usually 115-120PSI). The cause of this is a scored piston cylinder or a damaged piston seal. These are both replaceable as a set for about 30-40 dollars at a local Sears repair center. They come with easy instructions and take about 15mins to replace. Be sure to buy a torx screwdriver set, as you will need one to replace the assembly.

The air tanks fill with air, but the pressure

The regulator sounds like it is cranked closed. Try slowly operating the adjusting knob in the opposite direction. As the valve moves, you should see the pressure rise on your gauge (it probably does work).
Hope this helps....now go make something!

3gal. aircompressor - craftsman model #921153101

This problem is not uncommon with small compressors and the inexpensive plastic regulators they use nowadays. The one surefire way to stop it is ti install in in-line valve before the regulator outlet, even if it involves the double ended & threaded brass soupler so they both fit on. This way you can just turn the handles across the line effectively shutting off air flow. I have two pancake compressors and ended up doing the very thing.

Then when time comes to hook up a hose and tool, just switch the handle back and you have air.
