Acer 5532 Touch Pad Not Working

Here are a couple of ideas from a Google Search:

Press the key to the left of the On/Off button. The key has a picture of a finger pressing the touchpad. So simple, so elegant, so little information out there about it.

What is touch pad onmy acer aspire 5532, and how can I turn it on/ use it?

I just so happen to have the same computer, look at the top where the on and off switch is at, on the left side is the on and off button for the touch pad. You should see a orange light on when the touch pad is disabled. It's the button with a drawing of a hand on a square. If the orange light is off then the touch pad is enabled, now you have a different problem.
Now go to Device Manger (via start, control panel, Systems & Security -- should see Device Manager in blue), go to Mice & other pointing device, right click on the Alps info, then click on update device driver. If Windows doesn't automatically update, then you have to go to Acer's webpage, then support, then drivers and downloads, fill in the info on your computer to be directed to the proper driver, then download the driver file for Alps mouse/touchpad. This should help (I hope), good luck.

Once a mouse was attached the Acer Aspire 5532 touch-pad no longer works. When the mouse is disconnected the touch-pad still will not work. I do not see a toggle button to use to toggle between the mouse...

HI Diane,

Since you haven't provided the Windows Operating System version (XP/Vista/7 or other?), I'll have to provide the general scope of what you should try.

1. Go to the Control Panel and open up your Mouse section
2. Look through the different tabs until you find an option to either "Enable" your touchpad, or one that says the equivalent of "Disable Touchpad when external mouse or device is connected"

The idea is to accomplish your aim by working with the mouse settings provided for your system. Good luck and go easy on the "blue thumb". Please provide more specific information before a negative response.

Thanks

Mouse quit working on my Lap Top it is a Aspire

First of all check whether the touch pad is lock (Fn+F7(?)). If you use an external mouse/ usb mouse, check usb cable connection, as long as you didn't drop it on the floor it should be ok. If the built in touch pad doesn't work, could be caused by ribbon cable connectivity that has dirt or moist. To fix it need to open the upper case
