Change an edger blade

Always a possibility since they do reserve the right to make changes /improvements. Contact them to get the prior, older blade.

hold the blade and screw off the nut holding the blade on the motor shaft

Can you grip the blade and hold it still with say a pair of Vise Grips and remove the bolt that way? Lock the grips on the blade and then when it turns will it jam itself against the blade guard allowing removal. What type of bolt actually holds the blade on? Post back with more details.

Hi these are usually the opposite way to which the blade turns but you may have to use a rattle gun to remove this. If you have a look at the thread you should be able to determine which way it comes off. Just remember to fix the blade so it wont turn and take your fingers off.

It may have left handed threads and needs to be turned clockwise to unscrew. As for sharpening an edger blade...it won't cut any differently. That short blade, traveling that fast and rubbing against concrete is going to do it's job, sharpened or not.

Take a pair of vise grips and clamp the blade to a 2X4 for more leverage. Some old edgers had a left hand thread.
