It is at the bottom of the lcd screen. You will need to remove the plastic strip that is around the lcd screen. Remove the rubber bumpers that is at each corner of the lcd screen on the plastic strip and anywhere else that you see them. The rubber bumpers hide the screws that hold the plastic strip in place. Once you have removed the screws use your fingers and apply a little force to pry the plastic strip off.

Once you have the plastic strip off you can look down at the bottom of the lcd screen and you will see the inverter that has two cables attached to it (one on each end).

Below is a picture of what the inverter looks like.

The screen is to dark to see

If this in on a laptop, it sounds like the inverter has went bad. The inverter is basically the power regulator for the lightbulb that lights your screen. It's usually located in the bezel (plastic frame surrounding your screen) between the hinges. It's easy to open the bezel and locate. It's approximately 3" in length and 3/4" wide. If you look on the inverter you should see a little sticker with numbers on it. Enter the numbers into eBay to find the correct replacement. Should cost between $5 - $20 depending on the model. Good luck

I have a Sony Vaio all in one desktop, model number vgcjs110js and am having display issues. The screen comes on at first boot and will stay on till the computer warms up, and then black. I can faintly see...

The inverters are generally located along the bottom of the screen portion of the laptop.
Generally you would need to remove all the bottom screens to remove the top cover and keyboard to access the hinge screws. Also disconnect the wifi antennas as they run up through the screen.
Then you will need to remove any screws on the screen (some might be under rubber bumpers)
You will need a plastic pry bar to gently pry apart the screen.
Unscrew and unplug the invert and reverse.
Sony should have service guides I will see if I can locate one and comment back.
Hopefully this will get you started.

Screen is not lighting while laptop is running.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output on the back of the laptop, if okay it means the video card is working fine. The problem is a bad inverter board, "located under the LCD display" or the back light is defective behind the screen, "usually means a screen replacement"

The backlight won't turn on but occasionally will flicker.

Suggest you replace the Inverter. A Backlight goes out all at once.
90% of the time the Inverter is the hardware part at fault.

[ An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself.
A Backlight is used to supply the needed extra lighting.
A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a much smaller scale

An Inverter is used to required power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
Boosts power up for the LCD screen, brings it down for the Backlight.

Replacing an Inverter is a simple job. Replacing a Backlight is not.
The Backlight is located within the LCD screen assembly.

The metal frame of the LCD screen assembly is removed along the edge where the Backlight is located, to access replacing the Backlight.

In the above list for Service Manual, click on > Display Assembly and Display Latch.

This information shows you where the Inverter is located on a Dell Latitude D620 Notebook PC.
The Latitude D620 is part of the Latitude D600 series of Notebook PC's.

Just one place from a quick search, that sells Inverters for a Latitude D600 series Notebook PC,

http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=2895

MATCH the part number listed that they have, to the part number on your Inverter.
You have to have THE correct Inverter.

My screen has gone totally black. rebooting

The most likely problem in this situation is that the inverter is burned out. Do you hear sound? If your computer boots and there is sound, it is definitely the inverter board. You might want to try to replace the inverter board. I think it's about $15 on ebay. If you are tech-savvy you can take the computer apart. The inverter is usually located below the LCD screen. for more info on replacing the inverter click here http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-board-hp-pavilion-dv9000-laptop/

The screen is white >>>

Your inverter board is OK otherwise you will not get any light on the screen, there is only one inverter board, Check the flat ribbon cable connected to the LCD panel (locate behind the LCD panel), when this connector comes off you will get white screen.

No light on screen of acer extensa 4620 4605 PC notebook

This is a problem I have experienced with my HP laptop as well. I found some info on this and was told that it was the inverter. I managed to fix this by finding the inverter and, unplugging both ends of it and plugging it back in. This fixed the problem and a week later its still working!

The inverter is usually located at the bottom of the screen. To access it you need to unscrew the screws around the screen. This will involve removing the plastic covers and simply unscrewing them.

Once you have removed the plastic cover from around the screen, you should see the inverter at the bottom. Re-seat the connectors, and see if this fixes it. If not, replace with inverter. The site below is an example of where you can buy one.
