I have a Fargo C16 persona card printer and I am getting a message on its display stating ribbon error/out. I have tried to replace ribbon with new one and also cleaned some gunk off the roller. The card print starts to print yellow but immediately stops. It fails to initialize and calibration fails. I unplugged it (overnight) and it still does the same thing. A co-worker of mine had this problem previously with the same printer and a technition helped her, however she can't remember what she had to do - thought it was a software solution.

You have to send a job to the printer stating that type of ribbon used. Otherwise the printer will not detect the correct ribbon. Check in your driver if it's K (black) or CMYK or CMY
check the type of ribbon in the driver and send the parameters to the printer check the type of ribbon in the driver and send the parameters to the printer

You can try to recalibrate, it might help. take the ribbon out, close the printer, go to the drivers, go to the sensor area of the drivers, and select calibrate.

How many prints have been down on the unit? the most common problem could be the rollers need replacing or a problem with the ribbon sensor. We do repairs and also repair under warranty, How old is your printer?
run forgo diagnostic utility given on your installation cd Try by doing all the tools under mechanics tab most importantly ribbon sensor calibration and advance & reverse ribbon drive motor by removing the ribbon as instructed by the manufacturer
When you open and close the lid on this printer, it tries to realign the ribbon. If you are getting this error, I suggestion you Calibrate the print ribbon through the print driver printing preferences on the Calibrate tab.
In the printing preferences there is an auto detect ribbon button . you should select it.
Your ribbon will be updated. Also if printer asks you if the ribbon is correct select yes. The printer will then print on whatever ribbon you have intalled. This doesnt work with test prints
Not sure what your question is??? Must have been a defective card that caused the ribbon to split. Or the ribbon was worn and happened to split on that card. I hate when that happens.
Please repost if you have further questions.
