When I plug in the cord, the display screen should always say "0:00" and let me choose baking options but it either does not turn on at all until I press Start/Stop or says "4:00" "Rest" at the bake option and doesn't let me choose anything. I think it might be somehow related to the baking that I did yesterday- I don't think I pressed Stop when the bread baked, I just took it out and didn't even unplug it.

The only thing you can do for these machines is the following:
first, if the unit is always plugged in, disconnect it for at least an hour. This may reset it.
I doubt there are parts...but if you disassemble the unit and cycle all of the connectors, you may get lucky. IF parts exist, you'll likely need a timer module.

I have one of these and when you turn it on you just keep pressing the "menu" button until the little arrow is next to the type of bread or dough that you wish to make. It sounds as if it may be faulty.

Fast Action Easy Bake yeast is supposed to help with improving the volume of a loaf, but you can add 1/4 tsp of Vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid) to whole wheat loafs to improve the rise. Sometimes mixing the flours helps as a small amount of white (30%) can make the loaf less dense. Make sure you use the best quality flour you can afford - the cheap ones don't always make such a good loaf.

I would say reading this site and from my own model of breadmaker - stick with a Panasonic. There are so many problems listed for other models. I have had mine for about 15 years, make a loaf almost every day and they still turn out great every time. They update the models from time to time, but basically they still look and function similarly.

A few tips.
The yeast must be absolutely fresh, use sachets instead of packets.
Keep yeast well away from the fats and liquids.
The fast rise setting will produce less rise than the full program.
You must only use strong bread flour.
Open lid immediately beep sounds.
Look for your computer's monitor settings, then adjust its refresh rate.
To modify a refresh rate on Windows, right-click anywhere on the Windows desktop.
Select "Properties," then choose the "Display Properties" tab on the window that appears.
Click the "Settings" option, then select "Advanced" from the window that appears.
Choose the "Monitor" tab, which lets you access a drop-down menu with the options for refresh settings adjustments.
As a basic guide, use a setting of at least 75 hertz.
Confirm the change by clicking "Apply." Reboot the PC to ensure the new settings on the screen take effect.
Check your screen if the blinking problem is resolved. If not, try a higher refresh setting.
If there is no change on the flickering of the screen, this means the problem is not caused by the screen's refresh rate.
If your computer is not running on a battery or surge protector, shut it down to safely transfer the plug to another outlet
Hope this helps.
