Took my hard drive from my dell E520 ops XP and put in another dell e520 after removing the Hard drive with an ops vista. windows would not open. the two computers are the same mod and year just had different ops. any solutions? ron
You can't do that, it just won't work. A hard drive with XP installed on it will be unrecognizable to a PC with vista already installed on it. You can either backup your XP drive by putting it into a compatible XP computer. Or you can buy on of these, which are handy. This let's you get the data to your new PC thru a USB connection.
Hi ,
yes you can open your case and there should be two ide cables , one to your harddrive the 2nd to your cdrom/dvd player , diconnect the cdrom drive and use the cable to go into your 2nd harddrive , copy all you want , then just reinstall the cd drive and your good to go ............you might have to go into your setup or cmos and have the harddrive detected ......................Good luck Roy
