The volume dial on my iHome is sticky and is difficult to turn. How do I unstick it?

I now have an easy solution, although you may not like it. Taking this apart and lubing it is very difficult. While I had it apart, I drilled hole in the wheel and I can now stick my finger in the holes. The more simple solution is to super glue some kind of buttons or knobs on the wheel from the top and use them for traction. I now have an easy solution, although you may not like it.
