  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2008

    Cannon NTSC ZR65 MC.

suddenly the when you switch it on it's as if the lens cap is still on only with a few shaky lines also, but as with jayjay's, previous recordings can be veiwed fine.

its dark as if the lens is still on the camera

  • Anonymous Apr 19, 2008

I have either the same problem or a similar one.  My ZR 85 will play back tapes on my viewer screen, but when I attempt to record, nothing shows up on the screen or through the view lenz although the sound is there.

  • ssumbrella Jun 02, 2008

I have a JVC GR-D33U. I am experiencing the same problem. I can play back previously recorded material. The machine functions properly (all the icons, date and time on the LCD), except for the fact that it seems as though the lens cap is still on when it is not. I get a black field where there should be an image. I tried the tapping... to no avail.

I have a JVC GR-D71 and am having the same problem.

NAAAA all of my years I have never had a ccd open up where you got no picture at all!! Most of the times its a small line or discoloration or a pixle or a group of pixles out. The most common problems with a camcorder that has no picture on the camera is a stuck shutter or iris. you can turn on the camcorder and tap on the lens around the middle and sometimes it will open up. now if this fails then you have failed capacitors in the camera section and most of the time it dosent pay to repair as the entire board has toi be replaced. sorry windman sorry silly girl.

  • Anonymous May 12, 2006

Yes silly girl But have you seen the fault??? its not like a compltely black picture as Iv'e seen it as a matter of fact my fuji film piece of $%^%$ camera went out after 2 months and when imsent it in they said sorry its been damaged and i never damaged it so i took it back to walmart for an exchange!!It has shadows all around a darkened image and some brighter pictures were differant colors shades then what they should have been. Sounds familuar dosent it??? OH well thats life in the big city!!

If its really a CCD like the previous post suggested(very possible), then you won't be able to do this yourself, unless you're really handy with these things, and can manage getting your hand on a replacement CCD(bog knows how you fix them if at all;) Good luck!

no sweat techman, you daman ;]

  • Anonymous May 11, 2006

just an example of a CCD turning all black: "Fuji Photo Film USA has announced a service advisory notice for four of its digital cameras. The FinePix S2 Pro Digital, FinePix A303, F410 and F700 may all develop a problem with the CCD sensor, which leads to captured images that appear completely black(!), have a purplish cast or multi-colored distortions. Fuji USA will repair all affected cameras (serial numbers are listed below) free of charge, even if the one-year warranty has expired."

Same kind of bug with many other companies that probably used the same CCD

No picture

If you want to have it done for free check the canon service note - it may help and will not cost you a broken penny. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=227&modelid=9740&keycode=2112&id=48266

Canon mv700 Camera displays an error code

I have one of these. Sounds like you have a fault. Try removing the battery and any tapes. Also you might want to try and replacing the penny size battery it has which keeps the time and date up to date.

When did it last work and what did you last do with it. eg. if you've taken it out of a cold storage such as a loft and then into a warm place you might find that it fails to work because of condensation build up in the internal circuits. Keep it it a warm place for a while and see if it makes any difference.

NOT RECORDING

I also had the same problem, Cannon MV700i only recording sound. The veiwfinder, LCD sceen blank, VCR playback working fine. Contacted Plymcare by phone, they were very helpfull. They explained Cannon were aware of the problem and providing problem was ccd, would repair free of charge, as they bill Cannon. Posted the camcorder (over 4 yrs old) by special next day delivery and returned 3 days later, fully repaired. The only cost incurred was postage to Plymcare ( i paid just over £6 ).
