Hello, I have an e-drum Yamaha DTXplorer and a Toshiba laptop with 2Gb RAM running Cubase LE5 and Superior Drummer. I always used a MIDI-USB cable from the Yamaha, the internal "Realtek" card with ASIO4ALL and had acceptable results. Anyway I decided to buy a TASCAM US144 MKII to have "zero-latency", improve quality and be able to record better. Well, yesterday it was my first day with the TASCAM US144 MKII and I am sure that I can have better results because I am not happy with it so far (latency is worse than ever). This is exactly what I did: After installing the TASCAM drivers (version 2.03 for Windows XP 32bits), rebooting and checking the TASCAM correct setup in "Sounds and Audio Devices", I conected a MIDI-MIDI cable from the DTXplorer to the MIDI IN of my TASCAM device and set the "MON MIX" in the TASCAM all to "Computer" in order to receive only the audio coming from the computer (as I only want to listen to the sound/samples coming from the VST instrument "Superior Drummer"). In Cubase I set "TASCAM" as the Device and in the TASCAM control panel option I set "low latency". After all that, I started playing with my phones on coming from the phone output of my TASCAM and there is a really percibable latency that I did not have in the past. I am sure that there is something wrong. It cannot be worse now than before when I used the internal card. Doubts: * Could you please tell me what is the best way to conect (hardware wise) my "Yamaha DTXplorer" to my laptop with "Cubase LE5" and "Superior Drummer 2.0" using my TASCAM US144 MKII to have the lowest possible latency? * In Cubase, do I have to set the Device to TASCAM US144 MKII or I leave it with the ASIO4ALL? * Is there an ASIO Driver for the TASCAM or the drivers (version 2.03) that I downloaded from the TASCAM website are the ASIO driver already? * Should I uninstall ASIO4ALL or do I leave it there? As you can see I am new into this world. I use to play acustic drums some years ago and now I am back to the hobby with e-drums. I am learning about Cubase, audio devices, MIDI, etc. Everything is new to me. Thank you so much! Regards, Mariano

I'm trying to use the pads of my Yamaha DTXplorer drum kit as triggers for the sounds stored on my Alesis SR-18 drum machine. I have seen that Alesis markets a trigger module of their own which they...

Actually, ONLY TWO pins are used in the MIDI cable. The data is sent serially at a 31.25KBit rate.
You probably need to "map" the ones that aren't working into the appropriate codes to trigger the SR-18 sounds.

You need to COMPARE the codes sent from the DTX to those needed by the SR-18.

There also may be options in the DTX for type of drum kit such as "Latin" and selecting one of those may have the mapping already done.

In the literature of each device will be a list of the MIDI codes the DTX generates and those required by the SR-18.

essentially the percussion codes are NOT standardized completely between devices... but there is usually a way to "map" them to make it work.

you need to determine what midi note the DTXplorer is using for the snare, kick and 3rd tom, and set the SR-18 accordingly, or vica-versa. the midi notes for each instrument has to be the same.

if you cannot change the midi note in either unit to make them correspond, you can download a "midi mapper" program (i think e-drum might be one), there is freeware available if you search CNet. with a midi mapper program, you would have to get a midi/usb adapter for your computer and rouite the midi signal through a computer. midi mapping software allows you to change the midi note, when the hardware itself is incapable of doing so.

I want to connect my YAMAHA DTXPRESS IV SPECIAL to my PC

Any pro-audio interface with a midi input would do the trick. There are numerous products out there that offer this. You can get a simple usb midi interface, and connect the Yamaha up with a midi cable running from the midi out of the drum module to the nidi in of the interface.

one of the simpler ones:...

Drums on sx3

Hi!

You can put the drums manually with the drum editor. To do that, place the left and right selectors (the blue zone you can loop), I mean select an area first. Then, double-click in the area, on the track you want to make the drums. A midi segment will appear on the time-line. Double-click this segment, and it will take you in a drum editor. It's easy to edit, you will get to know it fast.
