Sony KDF-E60A20 60 in. LCD HDTV - Page 5 Questions & Answers
My 60in Sony Wega television is gooing out. It
There is a problem in the circuitry, probably a board going out, no way to tell what it is without seeing it. the mainpower supply could also cause this issue. There are different chips in the boards and one of them may be bad. I don't like to refer people to the repair shop but I think this is the way to go with this unless you are a trained technician and have experiance working with circuit boards and micro processors. If this set is worth keeping I would have a repair tech look at this, it will save you time and money in the long run. These sets are not made for the everyday person to repair. It may be as simple as the Florescent tube bank going bad, which is not that expensive of a part.

KDF E60A20 screen goes blank loses sound for 10 60 seconds
I've had this same problem ongoing for a couple weeks. Finally, tonight it would shut off every 20-30 seconds, stay off for another 20-30 seconds then come back on. It turned out to be my bulb. I blew the TV out with compressed air, removed the bulb and disassembled it. Taking the bulb out of the plastic cage I then remove one of the metal screens at the top of the bulb, it just has little clips holding it in. I took a bottle of rubbing alcohol, some Q-tips and proceeded to clean the inside of the bulb through the screen hole. After cleaning the inside I put the screen back in, cleaned the outside of the bulb with a rag and alcohol, then reassembled everything. The TV is much brighter, I had to turn down the brightness setting and has been running the last few hours without an issue. You can avoid all this by buying a new bulb but I don't have the money right now to replace it and I'm cheap so I'll milk this bulb for everything it has. Heat kills bulbs so if you clean the screens and blow out the TV once every couple months you'll get a lot of life out of it..... I'm almost to 4 years on my original bulb and my TV is on constantly!! Good luck to all!!

This sounds like a component has developed a thermal problem.
If you have a portable fan, place it toward the rear of the set and any vents you see.
If this changes its behavior, then it is a thermal effect.
If you care to experiment, you could buy a couple of cans of 'freeze spray' from Radio Shack or any electronics supply firm.
The rear housing would have to be removed if you wanted to better pinpoint the offending part.
Just spraying from a distance isn't effective, each component needs to be dosed and several seconds allowed to 'soak.'
If you catch the right part, the effect will be fairly quick and the heating/cooling should be repeated to ensure that it is the correct part.
Practically all electronic parts are subject to this kind of problem but the most likely culprit will be a semiconductor since they are the most complex and have plenty of chances to fail internally.
If you decide to use technical help, most will not troubleshoot them as described but swap out whole assemblies since many of the parts are nearly impossible to remove and replace by hand.
KDFE60A20 Grn light blinks forever then colored vertical lines
This is probably a Power Supply problem, and the set is shutting down for safety reasons. You need to check the Voltages coming out of the supply, and ensure they are correct. If the supply is OK, then you need to disconnect all voltages going out to the sets circuitry and then reintroduce them one by one until you find the "Rail" that becomes faulty, usually the voltage will go down. This then is the "Path" you follow looking fore the culprit that is causing the problem. it may be a faulty Electrolytic capacitor, shorted Diode etc. Do a visual check of all discrete components looking for overheating etc. Always check that your voltages are correct. I have found you a free link for a service manual. You simply cannot service a set without them. They give you a step by step how to..use that to work through the problem.

If you do not wish to do it yourself, please ensure that you get a Firm "Quote" before work commences.
Show me where the lampbulb
Hi Cheryl,
The lamp is located in the front of the set. There are 2 screws, 1 on each side from the rear of the set that holds the front lower panel on. They are at each corner. Remove those and the front panel will come off. Left of center you will see the lamp cage. 2 screws holds the cage in. remove those and slide the lamp out. UN-PLUG the set prior to starting this procedure. The rest is easy. If you are replacing the lamp DO NOT touch the face of the bulb. Oil from skin can damage the lamp.
TV STAYS ON WITH SOUND AND PICTURE FOR ABOUT 20
It is symptom of weak lamp that has been reached to end of its working hours life and need to be replaced to solve this problem.
Replace lamp in your tv, procedure is easy and would be written in your tv user manual.
Buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv.
Thanks.
Hello! I have a problem
Hi,
6 times red light blink indicates problem of Panel Det Error (lcd panel problem)
If tv is under warranty, please call number written on warranty documents to get lcd panel replacement and if tv is out of warranty then lcd panel replacement would cost you approx 80% of new tv price.
Just a suggestion, make sure tv has proper space for ventilation or put fan at rear of tv and check as may be tv internal temperature is causing this problem.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.
