Extremely... extremely unlikely back in 2001 .. especially for an off brand like Mintek. You can still get life out of it, it just doesn't natively decode HD signals. If you get a digital box, any TV can be "digital ready".

Hello,
how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.
To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.
Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.
If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.
To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.
Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.
Good luck.

Most problems like this indicate a dirty lens or "dvd eye". This can be fixed by getting some rubbing alcohol on one end of a q-tip and keeping the other end dry. Rub the wet end of the q-tip on the lens, then quickly dry it with the other end. If you want, you can also clean out the dvd by getting a can of compressed air and blowing it around to get most of the dust out :) Happy watching!

Hello,
To charge the battery back you want to
- Turn the power off the DVD player first as the battery pack will not charge with the power on.
- Attach the battery pack to the player.
- Connect the AC power adapter and the power cord to the player.
- Charging will now start and the Power/Charge indicator should now be orange.
- Do not unhook either cord until the Power/Charge turns off.
- Time of charging is approximately 4 1/2 hours.
- The battery pack will more than likely get warm while charging. This is normal. Keep it as much in the open as you can for the best ventilation possible.
- You will get a low power indicator on the screen when the battery has a low charge.
As for playback time you will get about 2 1/3 hours of actual playback and about 4 hours of standby with the DVD player actually on.

Tony

There is no new remote for this model of TV.
Because the local TV repairer and seller of the brand of Mintek TV does not sell or carry this brand, you will have to get a universal remote.
I would recommend RCA universal remote.
Good luck.

Hi there,my mintek portable dvd
Yes that is correct, over a period of time the laser becomes weaker and gets to a point it will not track, the second common problem the pladder motor that the disc sits on becomes defective and stops working. To fix this will require a brand new assembly that would not be cost effective to repair, but you can attempt to clean the laser lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol very carefully which might bring back the system.
