Try another source to the video input to see if the fault is the TV set our the satellite receiver box.
If it is the TV set, you will have to send it for service to correct the fault.
Most of the time I found that on the HD sets, the regular baseband output of the decoder boxes looks sort of soft especialy when compared to HDMI. This is normal. I really don't know the degree of softness that you are seeing.
I would use a calibrated video frequency response test signal and a scope to really make determination of the specs and if there is really a fault. This can be very involved when considering the testing of a satellite reciever box.
First we have find out if it's the set or the signal, So does this tv have snow on all inputs or just on cable? if just the cable try a another tv in its spot, if the problem continue mabe a call to the cable company is in order, I know that many cable problems come from bad conections or loosing a grounding point were the cable enters the house, Now if the problem shows up when watching a DVD or other video source it may be the tv's fault. Most likley a voltage is droping and need to be repaired perty quickly. What some people see as snow we see as a low VA voltage that is putting stress on a control board
I assume you are saying that the DVD player only has RCA jacks. It would be good to know if the DVD player has Component output as that is the preferred output. You will know this if the RCA jacks on the DVD are color coded green, blue and red.... You would by a set of component cables, hook to DVD matching colors and then find the same color code on input of the TV. You must also run the red and white cable from the DVD output to the TV input for audio. The input on the TV would be labled component in or input and a #. Simply select the input, or source button on remote to select the input that matches your choice and all should function. If there is no component on the DVD output and only a composit hook up (color code by yellow, red, white) again just match that to the corresponding input on the TV.
It is HD ready, which means to get HD you will need to connect a HDMI cable to a HDMI source such as a SKY HD / VIRGIN HD SET TOP BOX or a HD DVD player to take advantage of HD.
I am guessing this is a freeview channel that you are having issues with ?
Perhaps a re-scan for channels may solve the problem or the channel may not be free, it may be topup tv channel. UKTV Gold is an example of this. What is the channel in question ??
no problem., Your flat screen has two audio outputs, one red and the other white. Connect these two into your surround system and the system will handle the rest.
