If not a bad kettle lead or loose connection at the monitor it could be:

Failing inverter, also maybe powerboard capacitors leaking or not holding charge. flicking the power switch will cause it to fail more quickly, repair or replacement I'm afraid

Check the main AC fuse, DC filter caps, etc.

You have bad LCD panel due to the TFT (Thin Film Transistor) driving circuits, no much you can do, not worh replacing the LCD panel. You cantry reseating the T-CON connectors.

You can use the 5vdc from the monitor power supply

I look at the diagram page 31, pin 1~3 is the VCC for the panel with notes for 12/5vdc, it can be connected to the 12 or 5vdc, so it must have a jumper on the board somewhere that will let you choose 12 or 5vdc for the panel, the main thing is that the rest of the panel pins match the original panel, please verify that first.

look on ebay for the main board will be chaeper than trying to get a new one from LG

sounds like the pixel controllers have gone bad or one or more of the color (RGB, RED, GREEN, BLUE) controllers have gone out. this is quite common in lcd monitors/tvs and is usually caused by pressure on the edges of the screen (you grabbed it too tightly when moving the monitor) or just faulty controllers. they are expected to eventually go bad, ask LG for yourself, they will tell you the same thing. If you just bought it, that can be considered a mfr defect that they will replace, IF IT IS IN WARRANTY!!!!! Unfort. there is no fix due to seal that placed on the actual lcd panel inside the plastic casing. Youd spend more money trying to find the part and install it than just buying a new monitor. hate to say it but im an avid gamer and have gone through about 4 lcd monitors in tha past 3 years due to everyday use

Is this monitor and LCD flat Panel? If so this is due to a bad power supply, an inverter board going bad or LCD backlight bulb blown. When the backlight goes bad it gets just enough power to start up, but when it is on for a long period of time it goes black because the bulb is not stable enough to hold the charge because it is going bad. These bulbs can be changed, but they also can be costly!

When an LCD Monitor starts to respond like this it is due to one of three reasons a power supply is not generating enough power to properly power the LCD or the LCD's backlight is beginning to burnout, and last the inverter is bad. These things all can be replaced, but it is not worth the cost! Easier and cheaper to buy a new one!

Full 'make model (what it is)' in all questions please, first 3 words. Capacitors can split or bulge, resistors can burn,, the transformer can fail internally.. Take it for repair unless you have the thousands of dollars of test equipment and have do the 2 year electronic course.
