Controller voltage Problem in IBM
When you power on the printer, do you hear the fans kick in? If you checked the Maint. Man. skip steps 1 & 2, almost 80% of the time its CMX brd, not knowing your 6400 model? Part# for CMX 40mhz 157450-901, older models have 155802-901 CMX 25mhz V5.5...
Oh yeah if u don't hear fans kick in when you first power up, 80% jumps to 95% chance CMX bad.
I hope you have a current configuration print out! it will save headaches and a lot less down time...

Error 058 Shuttle Jam on an IBM 6400 Matrix printer

I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy
paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print
button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it
will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I
have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there
over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this
way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps.

IF trouble in first row - you ribbon is tracking wrong - replace
You may have junk in the ribbon mask also. No parts needed for that. You need to rotate the hammerbank. Remove ribbon and black cover, the whole shuttle will tipback toward you when you unscrew the allen wrench - watch out for the paper tractors they will hang on the ribbon mask. The ribbon mask is held on by magnetic field - just pop off carefully. clean holes with toothbrush and water - dry. (if the trouble is a bad actuator - 4 allen screws to remove a group of hammers - if using short paper - you can use a group from the end of the printer). reverse to fix
P62 error code
The IBM 6400 printer uses internal programming software that is specific to the printer based on installed interfaces and graphics options. This software resides in flash memory and when the printer is first powered on the software is executed. During this process it initializes the various processors on the controller board, initializes the optional interface cards, and then loads the necessary operating settings into dram. If the programming software becomes corrupt it will fail during startup, giving you the DC Program not valid error or a number of other error messages. The solution to this is a reflash of the printer. Unfortunately, the flash software is proprietary to IBM and they will not distribute it to anybody. The only way to get the printer reflashed is by calling IBM and having one of their engineers reflash the printer.
Canceling a print
Go to control Panel and click on PRINTERS icon. Then double on your printer and the print screen will come up. Then click on Cancel All Documents.
That should take care of the problem.
Hope this helps. Bud
057 close platen error message
Its located in the adjustment section of the platen control or in the platen itself.
Lexmark may still be supporting this model printer.
IBM 6400 missing decimal...
is there print missing??? if so the hammer fret in that location probably (90%) needs cleaning as dirt can get between the fret, it only takes the smallest amount of debris to stop fret working, you need to remove hammer bank to do this, fairly simple to do just lots of screws. the only thing to check when reinstalling hammer bank is that you pull it towards you ( front of printer ) before tightening the 3 screws, this is to be sure the gap between hammer bank and platen is roughly correct. there are 2 small grub screws at each end of platen to adjust this gap if you need to.
Ibm 6400 Printer thin 3 copy module loading problem
the 6400 paper present sensor works off the reflection of the paper itself, so if the paper you are using is black on the back the sensor cannot work as there will be no reflection. You need to remove the sensor and rotate it in its housing 90 degres so that it is facing the flag on the paper motion sensor, you may also have to paint this flag white (reflection to work) tipex is ok for this.
