Belkin USB/Serial Portable Adapter (F5U409-CU) Serial Adapter Questions & Answers
F5u409 will not connect to toledo scale. When
Hello,
What version of windows are you running on the machine it doesn't work on? This adapter does not work with windows vista 64bit or windows 7 64bit. It only works with 32 bit operating systems such as windows 98, xp vista 32 or windows 7 32. If you need one that works with 64bit you can buy the Belkin F5U257.
If you have a 32bit OS try uninstalling the software and reinstall with updated drivers from here:
http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/308/~/f5u109%2Ff5u409-usb-pda-adapter---drivers
Now plug the device in and try to communicate again with your serial device. Most devices only recognize com1 or 2 so make sure the usb device is set to emulate either of those ports.

Just bought the belkin F5U409-CU
first of all you be sure that you do not have Vista on 64 ..cause this device is not compatible with Vista or windows 7 on 64..
If your vista is on 32 ..and the driver for both the adapter and the pda are installed than and only than will the computer communicate with the pda..
So be sure that you use the disk that came with the pda. and install the driver ..and be sure that the operating system that you have in use is not on 64 ..bit ...

Blekin USB/Serial adapter, MacBook Pro, and Garmin etrex GPS
According to a tech support person at Belkin, this device is compatible with OS8x and OS9x, so it is not going to work with OS10 unless new drivers are released.
The drivers available so far are listed here:

The computer does not recognise the adapter
You need to isolate the problem. You may need to connect the USB-Serial adapter into different USB port of your computer or you may want to try connecting it into different computer. If you get the same problem after using different computer, you may need a driver for it. Or it could be defective.
Have a great day!

Tried using usb to seriel adaptor but unable to
make sure that both the cable and the software that you are using are set to same Com ports.
Ex. the cable set to Com4, the software must be set to Com 4
To change the Com ports of the cable you just got to Device Manager under System Properties then on the properties of the serial cable there is an option to change the Com port settings.
To change the Com port setting of the software just simply go to its settings or preferences.
