If the sound continues normally and the screen goes black (no raster at all; the screen is totally dark) you have a high voltage problem. Usually, it is a failure of either the flyback autotransformer and/or the HOT.

The repair of this section is around $200 if you take it into a shop; about half that if you can do it by yourself.

However, be warned, there are over 100 parts in the high voltage and horizontal deflection section and any one of them can be the troublemaker. So, you really should diagnose it before making parts change outs even though 80% of the time it will be either the flyback or HOT.

You definitely have bad solder joint.If you have a soldering iron you may be able to fix it.The way your talking it sound like in the deflection area.remove the back cover and start the set then using something non conductive i.e a wooden salad spoon , knock lighly around the circuit that way you may be able to pinpoint the area where the trouble is. you`ll have to pull out the chassis to resolder the joints.look for rings around solder spot. good luck p.s; remove power before soldering
