Can i change lamp light or should it be serviced

You can change the lamp yourself. Lamps are cheap if that's your problem. You need a Philips for a Sony TV. Discount-Merchant.com has them because they're an authorized dealer.

How do I replace the bulb

You would have ether a access panel where the bulb is or you would take off the back of the TV to replace it very easy to find once the back or access panel is off. If you just do not know how take it to a TV shop have the bulb changed for $15 $20 bucks only takes 5 mins to do. Thanks and please give this expert 4 thumbs up for your FREE answer today. Can't poweup after power outerage

Either the fuse has blown or the power supply is faulty and needs to be replaced. You can test with a voltmeter where the power supply meets main control board for power. The fuse should be next to power supply. It will be glass tube fuse and should have a thin internal wire running all the way across the fuse.

The Problem is your Optical Engine. The lense inside the Optics over time heats up and spots appear. In your case its the the blue lens inside the optical engine.

Sony kdf42we655 red light blinking lamp

If you have changed a spark plug in a car--this is EASY to do. The lamp is behind the front panel in this set IIRC. That bottom piece comes off, after removal of the "thumb screws" on each side of it on the rear. It then takes some effort to "pop" the catches loose, but it will come off, just work from one side at a time. Then, the lamp door is in the middle and a big thumbscrew holds it on. Remove it, and the lamp is behind here, up a small "tunnel" and you will need an allen wrench to remove the screws holding it on. Once this is done, it pulls out--and can be replaced with a sony lamp, I think an XL 2100 or XL-2200. BTW a new Sony lamp WILL come with an allen wrench.

4 year old 60inch sony flat screen purchased in 2005

sounds like heat got to the optical block, there are some websites that can give you prices on rebuilt opt units, but i suggest that you take a look at the sony website and check the factory recall section to see if there are any re-calls on your particular model. These optical units are kind of expensive.

Television popped and screen went black

This sounds like a short circuit of some kind, and I couldn't tell you for sure what happened to make it do this. The first thing to try, though, is to check if the supplied plug is fused. If it is, change the fuse in the plug and then plug it back in to the wall and switch it on. Be careful though, the TV could very well do the same thing again when you do this! The next thing would be to disassemble it and have a look, as otherwise there's no telling what's happened to it.

Make sure, also, that nothing has been dripping on it (like a leaky pipe) or spilt on it, as this is a common reason for short circuits. If it's wet, if there are "tide marks" on the case (ie marks where liquid has dried), or if there are signs of damp above it on the cieling, then move it away from that area and let it dry out for a few days before trying to plug it back in with a new fuse.

Unfortunately, though, it does sound like your TV is pretty dead. You might find a local electronics or computer wizkid who could disassemble it and find the parts for you, but be wary of how much that costs too.

Realistically if changing the fuse doesn't work, and I'm not sure it will, your best bet would be to sell it as spares or repairs on ebay, stating that the screen is mostly likely still working (unless there was sound after the screen went black, then it's probably the screen itself) and use the money to put toward a new TV.

Bright blue patch in center of screen.

The optical block is going bad. Contact Sony support and have your model and serial numbers handy. Sony sometimes warranties these even after the 1yr factory warranty.
