Blue patch on screen KDF-42WE655

There is a blue patch or area in the lower left corner of the screen on our 4 yr old Sony KDF-42WE655. This is is just bright, dark blue, no picture. Can this be solved by replacing the lamp, or is there some other problem causing this?

Thank you for the fast reply. I looked at link for the price - it was $758! I'm still in shock and trying to decide if its worth it to fix, or sell, or just let it die. That much money could go far to buying a nice new TV.

Any ideas or suggestions?

This is problem of Optic Block (light-engine) that will be replaced and it is costly fix.

Thats correct, its big money to get it repaired. I already mentioned it in my first reply.
If this dark blue spots are not much annoying then try to live with it and let TV die.

Your screen has probably been bumped by something.
The line may be possible to be fixed by an engineer reseating the cables internally, but the patchy area is a pressure fault and cannot be fixed without replacing the complete screen.
You can get these patches on things like laptop screens too, where somebody has pressed a finger on them a bit to hard.

It is problem of light engine (optical block) in TV and Lamp replacement does not solve it.
TV needs replacement of light engine, that is costly part.

take away if there was any speaker near the tv Unit. you need to demagnetize the screen using a magnet or demagnetizer.

thats a common symptom for that model which is usually related to the optical block. Very exspensive repair. Check with a sony authorized repair center as Sony has recognized the problem and offer assistance with certain models yours may be one of the ones affected.

The optical block is going bad. Contact Sony support and have your model and serial numbers handy. Sony sometimes warranties these even after the 1yr factory warranty.

Blue color flowing from side and bottom into picture

Sony tech support (no charge) said it was definitely not the lamp.
Their suggestion- By unplugging the TV for a minute then turning back on, the blue color was substantially but not toally reduced.
Perhaps there is an electrical charge building up distoring the color by having the TV in the ready mode for too long and by unplugging, the charge dissipates?
No other phone solution recommended other than calling for repairs.
