I have a Compaq Presario

wow a model stated, but NO OS , sad. why post with NO OS? CIRCA 2007 (carbon dated by me) NO MEDIA Stated just DVD (nuttn) windows VISTA 32, that it? many were that year, 2010 or older please tell the poster why anyone on earth warranties any 7 year old computer? must be wild men with cash to spend, ? endless? who does that, or did you buy a service contract, from someone? a service contract is not a warranty from HP not at all. the DVD drive has name remove the drive read the label there. post it and we can tell you what it can do an can not. or ask HP that, we are not HP. must BE XP after all only XP messes up DVD and many other things and needs, XP reg hot patches, sure. why not upgrade this XP trash PC. never ever RUN XP now, its a virus magnet, to you read the news on COUNTERATTACKS, last 3 months on XP???? sad no? or is this VISTA, it to has problems but IIRC DVDs work in VISTA OK. VISTA to must be fully updated from MS, (they shut down updates to vista last month( but there is one more patch from MS and is kEY to your survival with VISTA, ask HP or MS for it now) as you can see DAY 1 this PC had 5 optical drive options with the limits clearly stated on page 3 here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01278450 not the massive NO's on the the first one, cheap one...!!!! here is the key to testing DVD, unstated by you what you did. 1: MAKE SURE THE DVD DRIVE DOES WHAT YOU WANT. THE drive needs a patch from HP to read some movies we remove the drive read the label then read HPs spec on what you have. 2; You never once told what DVD is in you hand.. a movie from the store on DVD or on BlueRay. a DVD install disk A DVD you made on other PC say burned to DVD-R media some home movies, say MP4s whata? or what I can make or buy 100 of other forumated DVD in vast ways. some work other dont for vast reasons. tell me one reason, one disk, tell what the disk is. like DVD from store, with Gone with the wind on it,or WIZ of OZ. 3: then we go to HP.com and load all drivers seen on there site for you PC (only) and your unstated OS, , yes they must match. see this. https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/compaq-presario-v6500-notebook-pc-series/3369426 if your media is ok (do not use DVD recorded disk now, as a test) and the Drive is DVD drive, the label on it is clear as day.? and the OS is still HP loaded and not infected or erased using some Microsoft disk then, load all the missing drivers see above. and it will work, , if not the DVD drive is bad. next time POST OS. and tell which of the 6 optical drives you have, some folks even put in other drives here, if you bought it used it can be vast other drives here, once we know that, we can get it to work, only if its still good. after 10 years, many now are filthy optics or weak laser diode.

V6000 looping not starting?

One bad lead or faulty connection point can cause a computer to shutdown continue restarting on a cycle or fail to detect your hard drive boot up

test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause you problems computer needs all of the data and power to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working

check the CPU make sure it has thermal paste and dust free secure seating

also check your computer ram modules and cmos battery make sure it has charge and they are dust free and securely seated some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope it helps

My hp compaq Presario V6500 has been damaged and a

The monitor screen on your laptop is an LCD screen.

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

LCD screens are a composite of layers. The layers are held together by a metal frame, much like a picture frame.
The Backlight is usually located on one side, accessed after removing one side of the metal frame.

As stated, a Backlight is a very small type of Fluorescent lamp, (Tube)
Very fragile, easily breakable, and not usually approached by one who has very little, or no experience in replacing.
More common the entire LCD screen is replaced, which includes the Backlight already installed.

A laptop also needs an Inverter to provide power, both for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 percent of the time the fault is the Inverter.
I repeat, 90 percent of the time the fault is a bad Inverter.

An Inverter is cheaper than an LCD screen, and MUCH easier to replace than a Backlight.

Allow me to show you replacing an Inverter on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop.
Granted, it isn't an HP Compaq Presario V6500 series, but the principles still apply the same,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-replace-lcd-screen-inverter-hp-pavilion-dv6000-laptop/

I can also provide a free link, to the Service Manual for an HP Compaq Presario V6500 laptop, direct from HP Support,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3369429&

In the list click on;
Compaq Presario V6500, V6600, and V6700 Notebook PCs-Maintenance and Service Guide

This is a PDF file.
Allow up to 30 seconds to see the first page, and an additional time may be needed to fully download.

In the Bookmarks menu on the left click on the + sign next to;
1) Removal and replacement procedures
2) Component and replacement procedures
3) Display assembly

And/or go directly to Page 61 to view the Inverter location.

One example of an Inverter for an HP Compaq Presario V6500,

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Compaq,Presario,V6500,Laptop,Inverters.aspx

Granted this is not what you asked for.
My premise is to teach, and hopefully save people money.

If you have additional questions please state in a Comment.

I have 2GB memory in my compaq Presairo V6500 Can

Yes you can definitely upgrade to a 3 GB. As for the 4GB, i can't really say.
You see, most systems or motherboards comes with a specific limit of the RAM capacity or processor which they can handle.
The best thing to do is to go through your manual and depending on the exact specifications of your motherboard, you should see the specific capacity which your system is allowed to operate with. This is because, the limitations vary from each system depending on your specifications.
If you cannot locate this, you can call a technician over and he would help you go through the motherboard and tell you the exact limit of your system.
Hope this helped you?
