Bernina Artista 180 - Page 8 Questions & Answers
Needle broke of and I
Have you removed the broken pieces? The bobbin holder snaps out with 2 side holders to remove broken needle pieces. I don't think that the timing can get off by a broken needle. My first original bobbin holder got damaged which was made of hard plastic, from embroidering, and I ordered a stainless steel model which is available from a Bernina dealer, and all works very well for the last 2 years, there was never any problem.
Bernina Artista 180 won't power on
There is a fuse inside but the fact that it even lights up shows the fuse is ok. I really think you are looking at a new L- print (circuitboard). Whatever the issue it is an electronic problem. So it certainly sounds like you will need to take it to a Bernina tech. Possibly there is still a warranty or else it will not be inexpensive.
I am a Bernina tech.

Bernina 180 thread breaking and tension problems
First make sure that you are using a new needle in the proper size. A needle with burrs on it will cause the bird's nest problem. Also, is the thread you are using old? My repair guy told me to keep my filled bobbins in the freezer to maintain their humidity, and that has made a world of difference in my stitching. Finally, how long has it been since you had the machine cleaned and serviced, and was it by an authorized Bernina repair shop? Bernina machines have special screws that only Bernina authorized repair people have - I discovered that when I took my machine in to someone who was not authorized only to have the timing go off in a matter of weeks. The authorized repair guy found clumps of thread that had been air blasted into the inner works of the machine and those clumps were getting caught up in the new stitching and causing the same problems you described. Good luck!
