Compressor should have an internal overload that protects it. New fan blade should be the only part that would need to be replaced. you may have a problem finding that part and it is no small job to disassemble and install the blade not for the weak of heart.

After lightning MW12C1E replaced burned

If you had a major surge then chances are the entire outdoor PCB and possibly the inverter transformer need to be replaced. I'm not as familiar with the Friedrichs but most mini-splits use flash code errors on both the outdoor and indoor units, occasionally with the common codes printed on one of the outdoor service panels, usually only in the service manual (supplied to authorized dealers and sometimes available from manufacturers websites).

We have a friedrich model

First, be sure the air intake filter is clean and not clogged. If that checks out OK, and you can access the cooling coils, clean them with a sponge or rag, dipped in warm water mixed with a mild dish washing liquid. Rinse them with a clean wet rag and dry them. Then put a light film of WD40 on them. Also, clean the cooling fins on the rear of the unit using a soft bristle brush.

If all of the above did not solve the freezing problem, the compressor may need to be recharged with refrigerant gas. Which, is best left up to the pros.

I hope ths has helped you troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

We just installed in a

It should be in the installed position for at least 6 hours, before trying to turn it ON again. This will allow enough time for the refrigerant gas and the oil in the compressor to flow back where it should be.

Good call on your part. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

If your air conditioner or heat pump compressor won't shut off unless you pull the fuses or turn off the circuit breaker. You probably have a stuck contactor. The contactor is the name we give to the big relay that controls your air conditioner, heat pump or other large electrical device. If the indoor blower fan will not shut off either then the problem is NOT the contactor in the outdoor unit but a problem with the thermostat or the wiring to it either at the subbase or the furnace. Before replacing your thermostat you should isolate the cause of the problem or it will persist and drive you nuts. Look for wires touching or cut too long. A contactor or relay is an electrical device that takes a control signal usually 12 volts DC, 24, 120, 208-230 volts ac and creates a magnetic field to pull in a set of contacts that controls another device that may or may not get its electrical power from the same circuit. Note: 99% of most control circuits are 24 volts AC. The contactor has steel contacts that are plated with silver. When the silver wears away you have just plain steel and the steel will weld itself together. Sometimes if you whack the contactor with a screw driver you may free it for a while but the problem will re occur. This problem is especially a problem when a piece of equipment has not been run for a period of time. It is normal for the contactor to wear out over time like brake pads on a car. If the contactor shows any signs of wear it should be replaced as a preventative measure or as part of maintenance. If you suspect a stuck contactor a 100% accurate test is to turn off the power to the indoor section which removes control voltage to the outdoor section and it (outdoor section) keeps running. Do not keep messing with it, your contactor it is bad and you will destroy your compressor if you let it run!!! You can also have problems with spiders building nests in the contactor; the silk is an insulator and will prevent electricity from flowing. Replacing a contactor is a simple matter and they are readily available. Costs vary from about $40 installed to several hundred dollars depending on the size and current carrying capacity. If your compressor does not shut off when it needs to and the indoor fan does you will destroy your compressor. The high and low pressure cut-outs won't work either.

It is not uncommon for the room temperature and the set temp. on the thermostat to be several degrees apart. The room temperature should go down when you set the temperature on the thermostat down to a lower number.Hope this helps you and thanks.

The conpresor stay on about

The compressor needs to stop every so often as to not build up too much pressure in the refrigerant line. The blower fan can continue to run for a while afterwards because the evaporator is still cool; overall, it's more efficient this way.

I have an older Friedrich-

If this is a window or thru the wall unit, the problem you're having is caused by 2 things.

1. The drip pan's drain hole near and under the rear of the unit is clogged and needs to be cleared.

2. The rear of the unit is not tilted down enough. 1/4" to 1/2" is the general rule of thumb. This allows the water in the drain pan to flow to the rear of the pan, where the drain hole is located.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Thru the wall air conditioner

Your unit should be pulled from the wall and cleaned. Also Check with a level that through the wall sleeve that the unit sits in has a slight lean towards the outside and not inside.

Why does the air conditioner

It is normal for an air conditioner to leak water out the back. This water is actually the humidity being taken out of your house. Being vented out in to the garage is always an issue with condensate water. I have seen some people take a funnel and run a hose outside the garage somewhere. Keep the vent closed. It will be harder to cool the house with the vent open because it lets outside air in to the house.
