I had a power surge in the house and now my GE

It is possible the main fiuse in the Microwave has blown. Sometimes this is a special ceramic fuse and costs around $30. But to get to the fuse you have to remove the outer cover of the microwave( unplug it first) It is usually located on Top left side of the unit. Once replaced it should return to service.

Exhaust Fan not woring

Your exhaust fan motor has gone bad. You can find the part on a few parts web site but this is such a common problem with these units, all but one I researched for price are showing that they are out of stock. I did find one at www.appliancepartsworldwide.com .
Go to this web page http://www.appliancepartsworldwide.com/Store_Part.aspx?Id=1116893 , this is the part order page. All you have to do is click on Add to Cart and go from there. The part number for the fan motor is WB26X10178. There price is $185.00 which is the lowest I found and they are the only one that have it in stock.
Please rate solution.

GE PROFILE PURCHASED 2006 RUNS BUT NO HEAT

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

Microwave JVM1630

From what you have described, it appears that the microwave oven works fine, except that the beeper doesn't work like it used to.

This could be caused by a couple of things.

First, there is typically a piezo electric speaker that creates the "beeping" sound. It's possible that this part has failed. It's a mechanical device and can break. This part is relatively inexpensive.

The piezo speaker is controlled by the microprocessor board. It's possible that there is a problem with one of the output lines from the microprocessor that is tied to the speaker.

One way to determine which part is defective, is to try connecting another speaker in parallel across the original speaker, or remove the original and try the replacement (least expensive method).

If there still is no sound, then I would suspect the problem is on the microprocessor board. (most expensive method).

If I can be of further assistance to you, please let me know.

Good Luck!

Microwave does not heat up

The reason for not heating can be due to two reasons.
It can be either the magnetron or the diode.

WILL NOT HEAT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS

Assuming your inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan all come on when you try to microwave, with the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

Can a novice do this...how do I do it, step by step?

Disconnect from electricity. Remove screws holding outer casing and you will see the inline fuse. Make sure there is nothing that will cause the fuse to blow again. Always replace the outer cover before testing.

Panasonic Slimline Stainless Steel Combination Microwave

First of all, is the hole a factory one that you never noticed before? If so, leave it alone. I know that microwaves generate a lot interior heat and it needs to escape someway. Secondly, if it is not a factory made vent hole and you can't be sure if it caused from a lot of use, and if the oven still works fine, I would not worry about it if it were me.

Can't get handle off to replace

I am not sure if I can picture the problem but I do know that if they put it together, it can be taken apart. I usually fall back on that. It just takes a lot of studying how the thing is put together. If they put the glass in, it can be taken out. And as a last resort, i would just call the store where I got it or else type into your search engine something like the following---- (your brand of microwave and the model) disassembly of door--------or------replace handle on my (brand and model). Ought to give some answers.

Microwave problem

These microwave ovens are known for bad magnetrons. Mine just failed for the second time since 2000. the first time, was after about 3 years of use. My serial number was covered under GE service bulletin RA 08-02 which covers these microwaves from Apr 1999 through July 2000. I had a GE technician come to the house and replace the part for free (including labor). My guess is that GE got a bad lot of Magnetrons from Samsung during that time (Samsung makes the magnetrons, still does). Anyhow, when the microwave broke the second time, I decided to debug it myself. I am an electrical engineer, so I felt a little comfortable doing it. You are messing with some high voltages, so you need to be very careful. Anyow, I took the top of the microwave off (didn't have any instructions). If you can't figure out how to do this without instructions you should stop right there. You probably are not qualified to work with what is inside;)

Once you get the top off, you need to discharge the big capacitor in the front. If you let the microwave sit, it should self discharge in 30 minutes. BUT YOU SHOULD NOT COUNT ON THIS. What I did was wait 30 minutes then short the capacitor with a pair of needle nose pliers. Make sure the pliers have an insulated handle. When you do this, nothing should happen if the cap is already discharged.

The magnetron is located on the right side of the microwave. You have to remove a cover (about 3 or 4 screws) to expose it. After you do this, you should disconnect the magnetron. This is done by connecting the lower of the 2 connectors on the magnetron (the top one is a heat sensor, I think). Anyhow, after you have done that, you should ohm out between the 2 pins on the magnetron, it should be less than and ohm. After that, you should ohm between each pin and the case. This should be infinity. Mine had 500 ohms on each lead, which was bad.

If yours it bad, you should order kit WB27X10489. This kit includes the magnetron, diode, and stirrer. You should replace them all. You will see the diode on connected to one lead of the big cap. By the way, mine tested out fine. Since this is a high voltage diode, you may need to put some voltage acrossed it to test it (maybe more than a normal voltmeter provides). It you take a 1M ohm resistor and put it in series across a 12V supply, you should see it clamp at 5-6V in one direction, but not the other. Anyhow, since you are replacing it anyway, you can skip this. By the way, if the diode is really bad, you should see physcial damage on it. AND, if you do have to replace it, it will cost $40-50 dollars, but come with the magnetron anyway. The stirrer is located on the top of the microwave compartment. You have to replace it from the inside/top of the microwave compartment. You have to pop a little plastic button out, and turn it. The direction of turn to remove it are on the stirrer cover itself.

After you have replaced everything, you can test it. IMPORTANT, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PUT ALL OF THE SCREWS BACK ON THE INSIDES BECAUSE YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR CAPACITOR HAS A SOLID PATH TO GROUND. The capacitor is mounted on a little metal plate that needs to be grounded to the main chassis. As long as you have the diode screwed to this plate, and a couple of other screws between the place and the chassis, you will be fine. If you don't you are going to see some sparks as it figures out its ground for itself.

Anyhow, if it is working after you test it, wait 30 minutes, put the cover back on, and mount it back on the wall.

BTW, the magnetron is under the 10 year magnetron warranty. HOWEVER, if you have GE come out a replace it, you are going to pay a couple hundred dollars for the SERVICE CALL plus LABOR. My kit cost around $100.

Hope this helps

Re: Solution #1 Nov 1,2006

This rarely blows the internal fuse, but the fuse is located either behind the control panel on the floor of the oven or on the door switch holder. You can send us e-mail via our Web site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk Thanks very much.

Microwave Oven

I report from owner manual.

F3 means : Short circuit on key panel (your touch pad).
You get F3 error if a shorted key panel is detected for more than 60 seconds.
Solution: . Replace key panel (touch pad).

Try first unpluggign power cord for five minutes.

If you think that the problem may had been caused by water inside the keypad you can try using an hairdryer on the keypad, taking care not to melt the keypad plastic.
If that does not work, then replace the keypad.

You can buy replacements here. or Order GE Microwave Ovens Parts Here

Fan runs when door is closed

This is an interlock issue or a faulty temperature sensor. Both will require the outer casing to be removed for inspection. Basic tests can be done with a continuity tester or cheap digital multimeter with resistance checking facilty (Radioshack)

The sensors for these types of fans are normally attached to the roof of the cooking cavity, little silver components with two or more wires.

Check these out with a meter if any are open circuit then they need to be replaced.

That would be either a shorted top door switch or possibly a shorted main relay on the control board.

Either is a pretty simple fix.
