I would contact your computer manufacturer, If your laptop originally had xp on it you should be able to recover the product key. If they refuse to assist or give you what you ask for than raise hell with them. But if the manufacturer is out of the question, I suggest smartserials.com

If you will reinstall XP on your computer, no need to worry about the license you can still use the same license key that you have use for that computer and everything should still be OK , it will also be applicable to your other software that has some license key you can simply use the same key that you have use before....

Your CD is not a "Genuine" Dell OEM CD, that is why you need to activate the OS.

You can buy an original Dell OEM CD for your PC which do not need activation and passes Misrosoft Update validation.

Hi, I would suggest a system restore, either with your XP CD, or via safe mode which you access through pressing the ESC key during bootup. Hope this helps
