Downloaded latest maps onto Nuvi 760. When using

I have run into this myself along a certain stretch of highway consistantly. I was told it had to do with the geometry of the satellites in the sky in relationship to where I was at the time. I just deal with it as it doesn't happen very often - and only for a short stretch or so (a mile or two).

One thing you can check are the settings to make sure you have the nuvi set to "stay on road" Make sure you've set it for a mode other than "pedestrian" - which of course would allow you to leave the marked roads.

If you're still having trouble, don't hesitate to call Garmin Support for free, knowledgeable tech support. Please rate this reply if it was helpful - good luck!

My Nuvi was working find today...had it plugged in

The battery should last a couple years - so here's a common fix:

From Garmin's website:

  1. Make sure you are sliding the power button all the way to the left.
    • If the unit does not respond, it may be that the battery is not charged.
  2. Connect the nuvi to a power source such as the USB cable and your computer.
  3. Reset the device, if the problem persists, by sliding the power button to the left and holding it in that position for 10 seconds
    • This resets the unit and prompts it to power on
If it still won't charge, contact "SUPPORT" at www.garmin.com. There are 3rd party suppliers of batteries should you determine that the battery needs replacement. Of course there is little risk by having it done by Garmin.

Nuvi 760 will not take charge

I don't know which of the three ways you're trying to charge - car cradle, via USB cable to a computer or via accessory AC adapter. An 18 month old 760 should still have a good battery.

If you are using your car cradle to charge consistently, use one of the other methods and allow the 760 to charge for 8 hours. Use of the car cradle can cause the 760 to stop taking a charge after a while, and switching to one of the other methods should "refresh" the internal battery. Since the AC adapter wasn't included in the box, the USB cable method is likely your only other choice. While connected to your computer, you should download & update the 760's firmware. It's fast and free - and could solve other potential issues. Get the WebUpdater software direct from Garmin.

It is also possible that the fuse in the cigar lighter plug has opened. Disassemble the the plug to check for and replace a blown fuse.

If unable to get the 760 to accept a charge, you might need to replace the battery. There are several sources for batteries - but a free call to Garmin Support should be your first move.

HOW DO I IMPUT THAT WE ARE A MOTORHOME

Unfortunately - the only choices for "usage mode" in the nuvi 760 are Automobile, Pedestrian and Bicycle. Check to see if it is not already set to Automobile by touching:

TOOLS -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> USAGE MODE

and select Automobile.

You may benefit by going to Garmin's WebUpdater page to download & install updated firmware on your nuvi 760. It's free and all you need is a computer with a USB port and a USB cable that fits your nuvi 760 (it was included the box) The directions are clear and it is very easy to do.

Good luck!

  2. Connect the nuvi to a power source such as the USB cable and your computer.

Brian - you should contact Garmin directly at www.garmin.com - this site is not affiliated with Garmin in any way. I'd suggest that you secure the GPS to the center of the windshield or use the semi-permanent dash mount instead of suction cup mounting to the windshield near the driver window.

Good luck!

Touch screen not working

Your GPS might need a trip back to the factory if the screen has stopped responding to touch. But before doing that, you might want to try the screen calibration routine below:

1) Shut the 760 off.

2) Put your finger anywhere on the screen and hold it there while performing the following steps.

3) Turn the 760 back on with the slider switch and quickly slide it to the lock position.

4) Keep holding that finger on the screen for about 20 seconds or so - then follow the calibration instructions on the screen. You might want to use a stylus or other narrow, blunt object instead of your finger to get pinpoint accuracy.

If this fails to solve the problem, contact Garmin Support directly below:

I turn it on stays on for couple of seconds and

Your Nuvi 760 needs a new battery: rechargeables don't last forever.

Garmin's hope is that when the battery fails then you'll buy a whole new Garmin or will send it to them to be replaced, but it's a straightforward task to do yourself. Buying a new unit might make sense though if your unit also has outdated maps and/or outdated traffic/speed camera subscriptions.

A number of online suppliers have suitable batteries and there's more than one YouTube video showing you how to replace the battery. Click here for an example. Note that the same battery is fitted to the identical Nuvi 770, the only differences between the models is that the 770 has a larger internal memory to enable it to carry full US, UK and European mapping.

The 670 garmin shut down then say's low battery

musicman340,

It sounds like the rechargeable battery inside your gps is coming to the end of its life. After enduring the temperature extremes of your car in addition to numerous charges and discharges, these batteries do eventually die after a couple years. How old is your nuvi? If this is the problem, the good news is that you don't have to throw your gps away as this battery is readily replaceable if you follow the steps in this video:

The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to replace your battery. See: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GARMIN+NUVI+670&Show=ExtInfo
I swapped the battery of a friend's dying GPS using the aforementioned kit and all went well. His nuvi is back up and running smoothly.

Is it possible to get inland waterway maps (IRELAND)to suit nuvi

GPS City (http://www.gpscity.ca ) sells compatible Inland lake maps. Please note Garmin does not recommend them for that unit but I am sitting at my desk with one in my Nuvi 760 and it is working fine. You will need to turn off the street maps first to see the inland lake maps. I tested it with a Garmin Pre-programmed card for Alberta Canada.
