SOURCE: engaging 1st gear the gear grinds an clunks into

This happens when the parts of gear box is not proper due to misalignment. hence service the gear box first.... also change the oil and all the ball bearings of the gear box ... lubricate every parts in gear box.

SOURCE: timing chain tensioner adjustment

all v twin engines are noisy, if you could totally silence the exhaust noise, you would be horrified how awful the motor sounds, it could probably do with the cam chain tensioner ADJUSTING. i wouldn't think it would need replacing. unfortunately the manual only recomends this being done by a qualified tech, i have a xvs 650 with same trouble. i would adjust myself if i could find out the correct tollerences.

SOURCE: possible camchain rattle

yep, a lot more, if oil has been changed when it should. usual soution to this, unless it really is rattling badly, is to go out and give the bike a real good thrashing. that will stretch the chain a tiny bit and allow the cam chain tensioner to move on to it's next click in the ratchet. in other words, unless it sounds like a bag of nails, leavi it alone but keep an ear out for it getting worse, these engines are one of the best about, not like the Honda who haven't yet found out how to make a cam chain tensioner.

Slight ticking

When was the last time you had your valves adjusted. These need periodic adjustment and this is probably the cause of the noise

2003 FJR 1300 clutch adjustment

First of all... the FJR has a hydraulic clutch so there is no cable to adjust. Secondly don't listen to any of these people telling you to tear into the case. The FJR has an adjustable clutch lever. Setting 5 is closest to the grip (less throw) setting 1 is furthest away (more throw). See where yours is set and adjust accordingly

Oil leaking from top of engine yamaha fjr 1300 2003

Try tightening all the bolts near the gasket. Start tightening in X fashion. / and \. ie opposite in diagonal way. Repeat till they are tight. Do it equally.

Still leak is noticed, you may have to replace the gasket with the right material.

Engine noise Yamaha FJR 1300 2005, rattling sound at idle, goes away with very hot engine temps. The sound started very small maybe a tap here and there at idle. Now its very noticeable. I checked valve...

I would be looking again at the cam chain tensioner. I have replaced 2 on my 05 so far and it was doing the same thing. the other known problem for noise in the engine like that is the valve guides are know to wear prematurely on 05's and the 03 and 04. Yamaha knows about the problem and will fix it under a one time warranty even if you do not have the extended warranty on the bike. Make sure you talk to the dealer about premature valve guide wear.
