Just bought a 1983 Suzuki GS 550 L, was told that only two plugs had spark... well, I found a broken wire and now have spark on all 4 plugs. There is fuel getting to the cylinders because plugs are wet after attempting to start. It acts like it wants to start but doesn't, and after a few attempts it back fires, like a gun shot from the exhaust (with a flash), this tells me we are getting combustion, just not where we want it. The air filter looks descent also. Any ideas on what to check next? Could it be the valves or a timing issue? Or even compression? Thanks in advance for your help.

1983?' if so its points and they need resetting ,but what teh gap is i have no idea but 15th would make it work thats for sure ,points are located behind a cover on the engine crankcase

Hello Maria to remove the spark plugs you will need a 3/8th drive13/16th spark plug socket with universal and a extension.removing the spark plug,first pull the plug caps off then use the socket wrench turn the spark plugs counter clockwise to remove and install the new plugs.turn the plugs until they are seated and tighten them 1/4 to 1/2 turn. also depending on the age of the plug wires and caps the caps you can replace yourself the wires you may want to find some one to do that for you. with age they will start to leak and loose voltage to your plugs
my dear im having the same trouble only now i think my regulator is gone. check for wires damaged also check make sure all ur grounds are connected properly. check ur top coils and clean where they are bolted in because thats ur ground there. take off ur pick up coils in the bottom and check behind the magnets they may be slightly cracked.its worth the money to buy the manual and check ur wires. Do u have conections for parts? desperate!
