1988 Yamaha XV 535 Virago DX Logo
Posted on Aug 08, 2010

Thank you.I have a 1993 Virago 750. The engine runs normally, but when speed is increased with the throttle, the carburetor slides won't pull up. I've checked the slide diaphragms for holes, but found them to be in good condition. I have dis-assembled and cleaned the carbs with crc carb cleaner. Everything looks good. I also have a question about the jet needle, which is in the center of the slide. In the yamaha manual diagram the needle(item 7) is shown with the ring (8) and seal (9)on the bottom. Is this correct?

2003 katana 750 f butteryflys work on carb , what makes the the slide with diaphram open

The carburetor slide diaphragm is responsible for opening the carburetor slide when the throttle is opened. The diaphragm is made of rubber and is located on top of the carburetor slide. When the throttle is opened, the vacuum created by the engine pulls on the diaphragm, which in turn lifts the slide and allows more air and fuel to enter the engine .

If you're having issues with your carburetor slide diaphragm, it could be due to a number of reasons such as wear and tear, damage, or improper installation. You may need to replace it or have it inspected by a professional mechanic.

Briggs and Stratton 17HP Intek Governer Overspeeds

Can you Regulate the Engine Speed Using the Governor Arm? If Yes, then Reset the Governor. **To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Shaft Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor.** If you Can Not Regulate the Engine Speed Using the Governor Control Arm, then Check the Carburetor Throttle Valve. If the Throttle Control Valve (sometimes called a Flap or Plate) Mounting Screws Came Out of the Control Valve, then you will have No Control Over the Engine Speed. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. **The Throttle Cable Attaches to the Throttle Control Bracket. The Cable Moves a Slide that Moves a Pivot. The Pivot has the Spring Attached to it and to the Governor Arm. The Solid Link Connects to the Governor Arm and goes to the Throttle Shaft on the Carburetor. When the Throttle Cable is Moved it Moves the Pivot and the Pivot Pulls the Spring. The Spring Pulls the Governor Arm and the Governor Arm Moves the Throttle Shaft. Usually the Spring is in the Lower Hole in the Governor Arm and the Solid Link is in the Top Hole of the Governor Arm.** If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens

1977 GS750 Throttle slide height

When adjusting the throttle slide height on a 1977 GS750, the manual states that the slides should be set at .5-1mm above the top of the carburetor when they are opened wide open. The correct position to set the slide height is on the airbox side of the carburetor slide.
When the throttle slide is set too high on the engine side, it can cause the bike to idle high, as you mentioned. This is because the slide is not allowing enough air to enter the carburetor, which can cause the engine to run rich.
To adjust the throttle slide height, you will need to follow these steps:
  1. Remove the air filter and carburetor top covers to access the slides.
  2. Using a feeler gauge, measure the distance between the top of the slide and the top of the carburetor.
  3. If the distance is greater than .5-1mm, adjust the slide height by turning the adjustment screw located on the airbox side of the carburetor slide.
  4. Once the slide height is set, replace the air filter and carburetor top covers.
  5. Start the engine and check the idle speed. If it is still high, repeat the above steps until the correct slide height is achieved.
It's important to note that when adjusting the slide height, you will also need to make sure that the throttle cable is adjusted correctly, as this can also affect the idle speed. Additionally, when making any adjustments to the carburetor, it's best to have a professional mechanic to check it, as it could cause other issues if not set correctly.

I want know what something is called please?

The throttle cable has a fixed outer sleeve and an inner wire cable that moves. At both ends is a n*i*p*p*l*e. One end fits to the control lever on the handlebar, the other end fits into the top of the carburetor and operates the slide in the carburetor to increase or decrease engine speed..

How do i bring my idle rpm down on my 2002 cam 88

Ensure that the engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature and the enrichener knob is pushed all the way in BEFORE adjusting engine idle speed. It is possible for a properly warmed up engine to idle above the normal idle range of 950-1050 RPM with the enrichener knob pulled PARTIALLY OUT. If the bike has no tachometer attach one or attach a DIGITAL MULTIMETER equipped with an RPM INDUCTIVE PICKUP over front spark plug cable to monitor engine RPM. Then start the motorcycle engine and let it run until it reaches normal operating temperature with enrichener knob pushed fully in (enrichener closed). Then set the idle speed to 950-1050 RPM using a special CARBURETOR IDLE ADJUSTER and tip. Turn clockwise to increase idle speed and turn counterclockwise to decrease idle speed. The throttle stop screw in on the right or front side of the CV carb.

Bike won't run past 4k rpm. Has pods and cut off exhaust.

Hi sounds like fuel air mixture problem due to the filter pods, as this type of machine relyes on the corre t intake of air to run correctly. When running whatch the throttle slides as you increase the throttle opening the slide should rise. If by placing your arm at the back of the carbs, if byreducing the air flow alows the engine speed to increase then you will have to rejet to suite

1998 Ducati Monster 750 won't start. Ticks over ok, but won't "fire". New fuel in tank only two days ago, ran several trips since, just won't start now. Tried push-start, sounds like...

Carburetors could be dirty/blocked. Open throttle and spray carburetor cleaner in them, wait a few minutes, then start. Also spray carburetor cleaner again when revving. Should fix it.
Also, try starting with no choke and no throttle. It could be flooding.
Clean spark plugs.
