First off, I'm sorry to say that I don't know squat about the electronic and computerized systems on the new bikes. I don't care to know about them either. I'm an "old school biker" that likes bikes that the owner can actually keep running without having to depend on a "stealer". Although I love Harleys, I am no great fan of the Motor Company for turning their back on the older bikes that built their reputation. They love to brag about the older bikes but try to get one worked on at the dealership. They'll get down right nasty with you. That's where guys like me come in. If you have a bike built prior to 1984, you better know how to work on it yourself or know someone like me or you ain't going to ride much.
I don't know whether or not your bike has a side stand switch as I don't work on V-Rod's. If your engine dies when you lower your side stand, it does indeed have one. Wires and mechanical switches are "old school" and for the most part, totally unreliable. I would hazard to guess that in this case, Harley would use a "Proximity switch". A proximity switch is a switch that changes states whenever it senses the close proximity of a metallic object. This switch would be located along the area where the side stand would be when in the raised postition. Have someone sit on your bike with the side stand up. Notice where the sidestand along side the frame or whatever then lower the stand and look for something that is "strange" looking in the area. This is probably the switch and it does have wires running to the computer.
Good Luck

I had to replace my security key on a 2009 VRSCF V-Rod Muscle, after the dealer programmed the ECU, the side stand sensor is flashing across the LCD display, does this bike have a side stand sensor? I do not see any wires coming out of the side stand.
