Greetings, Dude. Unless there's a hot pipe near the battery, the melted battery case could be the result of a serious short circuit somewhere along that positive cable. On advisement, resistance in a conductor causes heat, so be sure to ascertain that the cable connection AT THE BATTERY is not corroded or otherwise compromised. This could be a dangerous situation. Automotive batteries emit hydrogen gas during the process of charging and discharging. This gas could cause an explosion if a spark occurs nearby. Thus we need to insure that the connections are near perfect. If your battery case is cracked or otherwise compromised, take it out of service and dispose of it properly. Good Luck. Herb
